Removing Stock Shift ****?

Do you guys have a trick to removing the stock shift ****? I tried briefly, and this thing won't budge. I was going to take some channel locks to it, but I don't want to destroy the ****. I just need to remove it (audio install). Is there a trick, or just turn like hell?

The threads have lock tight on them. I used a rubber strap wrench.

Wrap the boot in aluminum foil and use a heat gun to heat up the base of the ****, then use a strap wrench.

If you can get your hands on a strap wrench that might work. I would also wrap the **** with one of those nonslip kitchen pads that are for opening jars. Might help to not damage it.

I had that problem when I tried to remove my Boss **** to install my new shifter... It was super tight and slippery, I bought the rubber grip gloves from Harbor Freight and it came right off
