Question For 3.7 Owners With Long Term Use of a Tune

So right now my 2014 is running the stock tune on my 3.7. It's fine for just normal driving and mild acceleration but I notice that under hard acceleration the car feels like the motor really wants to put the power down and the tune is holding it back. It's difficult to describe except to say it feels like its actually retarding the powerband a bit or almost like the car has hit a rev limiter long before red line for just a brief moment and then it will grab again.

So anyway, I'm considering a mild tune so that the car holds the power throughout the powerband. I'm running the automatic and I'll have to check on my gearing but I believe it's the 2.73's. I use nothing but 93 octane fuel and the car is meticulously maintained.

My question is for those of you who have run a "street" tune for a lengthy amount of time. Has it caused any issues for you over time and how was the performance compared to your stock tune?

No issues, 30k miles. Tuned since 1000 miles.

Thanks Joey. May I ask what tune are you running and what brand? Also how do you like the performance compared to the stock tune?

Redliners tune, also used steeda. Both good, the Redliners race tune is great but the throttle response is a little too much for street use. Great if you want to have fun, though. Their performance tune feels about the same as my steeda tune. Performance is greatly enhanced, primarily throttle response. The bump in power isn't bad, either.

Thanks Joey, yeah the race tune is probably more than I need. I just want a tune that will let the car hold a nice smooth powerband under hard acceleration and not feel like its being held back. Running 93 octane helps some due to the car's adaptive tune but it still just has a bit of a hesitation during acceleration. You can tell the motor really wants to put the power down but something holds it back.

Your rearend is greatly holding you back too. I'd do 3.55s, one piece driveshaft and tune all at once. You'll feel like you gained 100hp.

I do have 3.31's as well (perf pack). The only real issue with the race tune is trying to drive smoothly when I'm just "driving". When I'm out having a good time I love it, but when I'm just trying to get home from work I have to be too precise on the throttle and I prefer the performance tune.

We have plenty of Steeda Performance Vehicles on the road with the Steeda tune & over the long run ... no issues.

Many of our test vehicles are still running the tune, pushed to their limits & still running strong!

P.M. Sent.

Best Regards,

I suspect the 2.73s might be an issue as well and I've never been a fan of that crappy drive shaft that Ford put on the car.

Thanks TJ, I'll browse some prices for a CAI / Tune combo and check my options.

100% certain that it is.

I remember the demo I drove was an auto with 2.73 gears. I almost didn't buy the mustang based on that demo. I loved the styling and flexibility of how you can build out your car from factory that I got mine with the PP and it is night and day.

I have the bama tune with 2.73's and I run the race tune. I don't have anything bad to say. I drive about 85% freeway, so the gears work for me and the tune really wakes up the car.

Even if you did mostly highway driving, you could still bump it up to a 3.31 factory unit and still have good highway mileage without raising the revs to much.

Assuming you are running the P215/65R17 tires, your revs at 65MPH in 6th gear would rise from 1,514 to 1,836 going from 2.73 to 3.31. Those numbers are calculated and may not be exact, but they are close enough. I would expect your mileage to drop, but I have no idea how much.

I would probably go for a tune first and see how the car felt before changing the rear end, but that's just me.

I have 3.73s with a Bama Race tune. Soon probably going to get the MPT Ghost Cam tune just because. I have had no issues for over 40k miles running a tune and I run my car hard.

My tires are P255/50 R 18 due to the appearance package. They basically put GT tire size on it. I'm wondering if that could be a contributing factor as well.

Currently at 70 mph I'm just a shade under 1500 rpm.

I get 28mpg highway with a tune and 3.31 gears. Often doing 75-80 as well.

TJ with Steeda was nice enough to give me a 6% discount but from what I'm seeing on this thread and other research I'm seriously considering the Airaid dry filter with Bama tune combo from American Muscle.

3Point,

Great options out there ... but happy to talk to you about the Steeda CAI & Tune if you are on the fence or need more info.

Let me know!

50K of Tuned miles on mine, average MPG with my 3.31 and manual is around 26 with probable 70/30 split between hwy and city.
