Ported & Polished Intake Manifolds
I just put it into perspective. The money I have spent on the Mustang has provided a lot of performance mods compared to something like a previous like my previous GTI. Granted the first mod cost $650 but got my 50hp and 100tq, but after that you're talking even more money for 10hp. And if you want to reach 300hp, you need a bigger turbo. And anything you do requires suspension mods if you want useable power. You also need suspension mods for the mustang, but you can put a few more power mods on before you absolutely need them.
Same deal with my Abarth. $500 got me my first 40hp/50tq which puts the car right around 200hp. However, additional power mods don't really gain much if anything more.

Oh im familiar with P&P...mainly on big blocks that are running FI. Helps imensly...what I think is fishy is how you have to P&P both the uppwr and lower manifolds. Ive seen a few pics and videos of some porting of the 3.7 intakes and by just porting the upper (given its size and flow restrictions) I would think it would give some slight improvement on its own.

Honestly it's not a lot of money. I paid $220 for new manifolds and sold the original ones for $125 that someone else used for porting. So basically I paid $450 for parts, labor and shipping. And I got to help out another 3.7 owner.
You have a few major Mods like CAI, Exhaust, H/X pipes/ Headers.
Then you have mods like Gears, Driveshaft
Then you have minor mods like Throttle Body, Port & Polish, Coils.
And then you have a TUNE!
The minor mods are supposed to compliment the major Mods and produce maximum bolt-on power staying N/A.
Now if you do NOT have any major mods and you decide to install a throttle body and Port polish manifold, you will likely not see much difference except for a few pony's at certain rpms (im guessing 8 to 10)
BUT, if you have major mods and then get the minors also, that 8-10 will increase to 15-20 atleast!
That's what i believe in and it actually makes sense.

This talks about how the stock lower intake creates a 21% flow loss and porting completely gets rid of that.
But you're still right, porting of the upper will provide benefit. I was just blown away by the 21% loss into the lower.
It's not just using a Drexel there is some sanding to make things smooth involved. You probably could do it yourself but do you know where to take off material? When you look at them they look smooth and for me it was hard to tell where I would take the material off. If you had some detailed photos of some already ported intakes you could probably figure it out. Taking off to much material can be bad so you have to be cognizant of what your doing.
I was thinking it might be worth the couple hundred bucks to get a set of manifolds and try it! I can't see the harm as long as I don't take too much material off to the point it weakens or opens a hole through it, and as long as I am careful around the gasket areas. I don't know, I'd have to see the physical part. I've also had a few beers so my judgment my be clouded.
I know one guy who did this and went through a few of them and even drilled straight through. By the time you get it right you could have already paid for a professionally done set and have been enjoying them for awhile lol.
I have done the polishing myself, that's pretty easy, but the porting requires someone who knows what they're doing. Probably something you could read up on and/or watch some videos and learn, but I wouldn't just wing it....
you would have to be precise with it, can't leave some areas smooth and some rough, size differences and all that **** might just get you rough idle/power loss or not the thing you're looking for. Unless you know how to do it exactly the SAME (mm) for all ports, don't even try it.
