I googled it, and people are saying that Spectre makes crap CAIs. They (Spectre) say that you don't need a tune, but personally, I don't see how that can possibly be. You're letting more air into the motor, and that's gonna make it run lean. They also promise a 10-rwhp increase. I seriously doubt that, especially without a tune.

All but one of the CAI's out for the 2011+ Mustang V6 are no tune required and all are getting close to the same power increase, 10-12 HP.
The increase isn't at peak though, it comes in the mid range, which is good for street driveability.
I'm considering this CAI, although I would have to paint it, don't like the polished finish.
Here is the REAL answer...
You WILL be able to see a solid gain of 10 rear wheel horsepower, provided the factory timing level stays steady (at the same level) after the installation of the air intake assembly. The only way to GUARANTEE this is to run a fuel grade that is higher than 87 octane. The 10 HP gain is the direct result of the airflow increase ALONE, as the air/fuel ratio stays exactly the same as stock and running a fuel quality level that is greater than 87 octane will guarantee the the timing level holds steady at the factory prescribed 17 degrees at wide open throttle.
When you run 87 octane fuel, however, the timing level will fluctuate when an aftermarket air intake assembly is installed. It can drop anywhere from 1 to 1.5 degrees, and this slight reduction in timing reduces the total HP gain over stock to anywhere between a minimum of 4 to a maximum of 6 HP at the rear wheels. It is the same air intake that will add 10 HP at the wheels with better quality fuel, but your total gain is limited when running the lowest level (87) octane fuel. There is your answer...
Yes, i agree...Shenanigans! Thing is I'm using my broom to clean up the bags and bits after I just installed the Steeda CAI and tune. That is a real piece of hardware, and just looking the pic of this Spectre is a little suspect. Ask Mr. Bond about Spectre.
I will be posting a full writeup on the mods I have done with vids and pics. Look for it later today or tomorrow in the V6 mod section.

I would not buy any CAI that has a metal tube.. They tend to get warm and then its not cold air induction by any means. Check out American Muscule and look at the AIRAID. I am also looking at the JLT as thats what manufacture I had for my 06 and never had an issue.

I had a ultra cheap(like $70) CAI on my old '04 Mustang and it worked great.
Not saying that this spectre deal is or isn't any good since I haven't seen one or read any actual user reviews as it seems that spectre hasn't shipped any of these out yet.
I like low-buck mods any time I can get them and make them work, have a few on my car already and all have worked out great so far.
What mods (that you consider cheap (as in price)) have you done that have given performance gains? I've read about the sound mod you did, but would not consider this a "performance" mod.
I'm always interested in saving money (that's why I'll buy used whenever I can); I will avoid however anything that folks share their experience on these forums that lead towards the "cheap/don't buy".
I've read that the stock air box that's in our V6 Mustangs already flow good, so I don't plan to buy one, unless I go with a CAI/Tune combination. I'm not nessesarily into the "cool look" factor either. I'd rather save money and buy what's going to net me some bang for the buck, rather than the bling look.
Hated chrome as well. My Harley never had much of it; my friends would spend hours shining chrome...I rode instead.

And since nobody has had one of these spectre CAI's on a 2011+ Mustang V6 yet then all talk about how bad they are is just speculation based on others talk about parts on other cars so I discount those.
And the spectre CAI isn't chrome, it's polished aluminum and very easily painted, which is what I would do with it if I installed it on my car.
