OK, first of all I have a Barton instead of the Hurst but I think those of you you installed the Hurst could answer my question. The Barton is fantastic but my wife has a hard time getting it in to reverse and an LED to indicate she made it would really be nice.

I found lots of threads on the Hurst saying they skipped that step, some that say they ran the wires all the way from the actual back up lamps in the trunk and others that say the Hurst instructions have the color code wrong.

I am thinking that the best way is to tap into the wires at the transmission. Since I only want to do this once, does anyone know which color wire is absolutely correct?

I found a write up with pix on the Late Model Resto site and they did run the wires all the way to the tail lamps. This seems like the long way around. I guess I'll take the boot off again and get under there and look for a better way.
