If I had all the information I have now from this thread, I would have phrased the question as -

"Not caring about the 0-60 time, horsepower or other performance, how do I get to 0-30 faster by pressing half the gas pedal - so lower RPM produces higher torque sacrificing other things such as MPG"

Gears.

Then again, no changing the powerband without significant changes. Gears will increase acceleration across the board.

I could not have gotten this piece of information without BMW comparison. I had searched all I could, and had seen various performance upgrades information but it wasn't clear what I needed for my specific issue. 0-60 isn't my issue nor is the speed as I ain't racing and most posts were focused on those. It also depends how to read a post. If your first knee jerk reaction after seeing the first word is "this guy is bashing V6", I can't really do anything about it. I did not know how to explain it any better without doing the comparison. If I had said "I want better acceleration", people would have responded "it has great acceleration" without anything as a comparison. I clearly bought this car because I love it and I love it more than any others I have owned in past. I am not trying to race the two and see which wins or to prove that one is inferior than the other, just trying to explain with analogies so I get specific responses from others who may have been in this situation before to see if the suggestions can help me. Since I bought it used, I didn't even know if someone would say "that shouldn't happen, get it checked out". Mustang V6 probably has 99 pros vs BMW and I was after this 1 thing that I like in BMW better. Just because I am new here does not mean I am willing to take the abuse. I thought it was important to clarify my point so you give others the benefit of the doubt in future. Life is short and I don't have time to go around and bash something in my free time. Peace!
Yes.

Let me see

I don't own a V6 but I kind of did. I bought a 2013 no option except auto V6 for my daughter back in 2013. Drove it many times and in many situations. For me the car lacked low end. I think gears would do wonders for it. I had a 2007 GT completely stick with 3.31s and while it was great for me because I was used to trucks it just had this what I perceived to be throttle lag. I had 4.10s put in it and wow what a difference. On stock everything else.

Of course it cost me some mileage. But I think the gears would help my daughters old V6 and your car most.

If the Beamer has AWD that helps too but cans do nothing about that. They always launch better depending on torque though.

My 2011 automatic (3.31 gears) did 0 to 60 in 6.1-6.2 seconds, 100% stock. With just a tune it did 5.7-5.8 seconds. All of my test are done on the same warehouse road that goes slightly up hill. I have used this road for many years

I now run 0 to 60 in the high 4's. I use a G-Tech to do the timing

Wait, whaaaat?! You do high 4s for 0-60 in a V6 with no forced induction? What power mods do you have and what are you making at the rear wheels?

My car makes ~370 to the rear wheels and 0-60 on a prepped surface with roll out is rated at 4.3s

OP to answer your question, yes a tune will help the V6. I have a 91 octane race tune from Bama and the difference from stock is like night and day. It improves the acceleration and shift points on an auto trans.

I have a base model and have not changed the gears. Start with just a tune. No need to get a CAI with it. That will lower the price for you.

Bama has tunes for life so if you add other mods later like gears you can always update the tune.

The Mustang is actually faster than the 328i if you look at instrumented testing done by reputable magazines. Also consider that they weight the same and the Mustang has considerably more power. The BMW may feel faster and this is due to power delivery. BMW is very good at making their cars feel faster than they are. My dad had a 320i loaner car for a few days while his car was being serviced. I drove it a little bit and I have to say, it did feel faster than the numbers suggest. As has been stated, the Mustang arrives at peak torque much higher in the power band, so consider getting a 3.31 or shorter (I wouldn't suggest going any shorter than 3.73) rear gear ratio so that the engine can get up to peak torque faster. This in combination with a good tune (go with MPT, not BAMA) will completely transform the way the car feels as well as making it a good bit faster.

Just put in the BAMA 87 street tune and there is a substantial difference! Will run this for 2-4 weeks to see if I am satisfied with it before upgrading the gears to 3.55.

Thanks again for all the knowledgeable info!

Welcome to TMS, matrix. IMHO, the '13-'14 "wide bodies" are the best looking of the S-197's; I hope that when you have scored all the performance mods you've decided on that you will be as happy with yours as I am with mine. Maybe the Beemer will even get relegated to "winter beater" status!

Before you change the gears try the Bama performance or race tunes. It may be just what you are looking for for a daily driver

What are these "wide bodies" you're referring too?

It's a kit that Shelby manufactures.
Front and rear fenders are widen.
It's a Love or Hate look.
For me it's a Love when done to perfection.

Oh ok, I've seen pictures of these before, I just assumed they were one-off custom type deals. They do look pretty decent.
