Would just updating to ceramic brake pads benefit my stopping power?

Ceramic pads are not for best stopping, just less dust.

Too bad. I was thinking of going ceramic because brake dust is driving me crazy with my black wheels.

So the only benefits are less dust?

Ceramic brake pads handle heat better giving you less fade and the pad recovers quicker.

Just get slotted rotors w/ceramic pads.

Or save up for the new Ceramic brakes that Shelby is testing....

Sure you are not talking about ceramic rotors? I don't believe ceramic pads are very popular for track use because of what Ltngdrvr said. Hawk's autocross/track brake pads are not ceramic.

I have hawks on my Shelby, it's part of the reason I bought them. I'll go on their website and take a pic of the benefits of ceramic pads...I like them, but I don't track my car and they might act differently on the track.

Would you say they are the same or better than the stock pads on your car? I don't track my car either so guess it should be OK for me then plus mine is a V6. Also another thing that discourage me going ceramic is that supposedly they don't stop well at first when is cold outside. Since I live in the Northeast need to worry about this.

Get ceramics and drive... alot of cars have ceramics and have no issues. This subject is being over-thought...

Most euro cars come with Ceramic pads as OE, so they are not going to make your car less safe.

That may be true but a lot of us want an upgrade from what we have now not a downgrade so that is why people ask. Plus a lot of us never had ceramic bakes.

They are an upgrade....if you don't like cleaning brake dust.

My semi-metallic pads don't bother me any, with gray colored rims you can't see the brake dust they make.

Those hawk ceramics may have increased stopping power over a basic organic pad but not over the performance pads that come on the V6 PP cars or on any Shelby, the other claims in the text are correct though.

So the pads on my car are better than the ceramics? I have a V6 PP...

Much better stopping power, LOTS more black dust.

And ceramic pads, all pads for that matter, make dust when applied. It's just that the dust on ceramics is light colored and doesn't stick as bad and doesn't eat into the finish on the wheels.

I own a Shelby and the stock pads did NOT do a better job...but I'm talking about street use, not road racing.

Ceramics run cooler and wont warp rotors as easily as semi metalics

"Euro spec" vehicles are designed to run at autoban speeds; much higher then what we have in the states. Germany for example has a hugh stringent inspection program, preventing vehicles from being operated on their roads if they don't pass. The brake pads installed on most factory vehicles over there are ceramic. Install ceramic. You'll be fine. If you were towing a large trailer down hill such as a truck would be, then I'd suggest the semi metalic, or if you were running the Wakins Glen road course and planned to change out the pads afterwards, I'd suggest something other than ceramic.

As TexasBoneKing said, this is being over-thought.
