Put Shorties on and you pick up low to mid range to help you get up to the top faster without all the rasp of long tubes, then put your gears in

Aren't headers a pain in the rear to maintain?

I don't think he means keeping clean. You have to tighten the header bolts after about 500 mi. then check them after that but no they are not a pain to maintain.

Well i mean finish issues could cause problems. Half *** welds or surface rust can be prevented by powdercoating which could save the headers in the long run. But why would you have to tighten em so often? Because the vibrations?

Yes the bolts could need tightening after install which is why people check them at 500 mi. The factory headers are put on and torqued down with the engine out. Also most dont install and torque the bolts then heat up the headers and check that the bolts are torqued properly again which is a good way to make sure you don't have to tighten them again.

I'd like to know too. That's the only maintenance problem I know of. I've even heard of special bolt heads to use with headers to keep them from coming loose but I have no experience with any thing like yhat

I heat Cycled mine when I put them on and have checked them a few times but have not ever gotten more than an eighth of a turn out of them.
I think I could have gotten away without ever needing to re torque them if I used the stock Exhaust gaskets.

I don't think wrapping is going to make much of a difference unless your hardcore racing your stang. It's pretty open in our engine bay. lots of airflow.

Wrapping isn't permanent either. And it's a pain in the butt to do unless not not he car. If you're lucky it'll last a year.

when i put headers on my 2010 camaro it raised the under hood temps a good bit since theres so much more surface area to dissipate heat. i wraped them and went bad down to about how it was before. there might be more air flowing threw the mustang engine bay though especially since i have the gt500 hood and bumper.

Yea with the gt500 front end theres alot of open space for the air to move through. Even in the engine bay i can see the catalytic converters, headers, the whole steering column, and lots of otherstuff that just normally isnt visible in other bays. These 10+ models have alot of room under hood which is definitely a good thing.

I went Ceramic because I know Chrome on anything hot will turn blue where the ceramic will still look the same.
