Thumbs up Aluminum driveshaft installed

With all the 'possible' driveshaft problems, i ordered an aluminum driveshaft from American Muscle. It only took a couple days to arrive. I installed it this afternoon. Very easy to do yourself. Make sure you have a 12mm 12 point socket and wrench, plus a good breaker bar. I have a Steeda safety loop coming in a few days for extra peace of mind . My girlfriend and i drove around checking for sounds and vibrations. Tried different speeds, etc. Me and her both think the new driveshaft is smoother and more quiet than the factory one. I wasn't expecting this. I have an automatic transmission and there is usually a 'clank' sound when you shift from park to reverse and form reverse to drive, doesn't make the sound anymore. I'll post back if and when anything bad starts happening. Here are a few pictures of it. Its hard to take a picture of a driveshaft when its only on ramps and jack stands .[IMG][IMG][/IMG][/IMG]

I don't think there have been any failures of the shafts that A/M sells.

David, Looks great and definitely would give me peace of mind over the OE unit, plus you're reaping the benefits of an aluminum one-piece! Is the new DS a 3.5" or 4"? I had a 4" spydershaft on my 2005 GT and it soon showed some scraps on it from hitting a spot in the tunnel during my 5500 RPM launches at the dragstrip. When you have a chance, please provide a link to the shaft you bought from AM. Thanks.

Just 8 bolts to remove (4 on front and 4 on rear). By looking at the weights welded to balance the shaft, i think the axle was made by a company called 'Axle Exchange'. I'm not 100% sure on that because on their web site they don't show they make a driveshaft for a 11+ V-6 Mustang. As of now, the driveshaft i bought (automatic trans.) is 'out of stock' at American Muscle. Its a 4 inch but i think the factory one was a 4 inch too. Just go to the American Muscle web site and click on 'driveshafts'.

I still can't believe how smooth and quiet this driveshaft is.

David, does it feel any more solid during acceleration? also, is the vibration still present during decel at higher RPMs (3-4k). Thanks for the info!

I just came back from trying to see if there is anything bad about this driveshaft, everthing is perfect. No vibrations or sounds at higher speeds. I did a pretty good burnout, everything was perfect.

Scott, if this driveshaft is made by "Axle Exchange", they balance their driveshafts at 5,000 rpm (if i remember right). Everything feels more solid. Hard to believe a driveshaft can make my Mustang feel so much better in so many ways.

The V-6 aluminum driveshaft is around 10 pounds lighter than the factory one. The 29 pound weight savings are for the GT driveshafts.

Very sick, David! Looks great! Thanks for the support/patronage!

Glad to hear this has helped ease your worries with your drivetrain! You should have no problems from here on out! Our project car runs this same exact driveshaft and she's been put through her paces more than most people could ever hope to put a car through.

Keep us updated, let us know how the DS safety loop fits, we're looking for something to pick up for the 2011+ models. If/when you install if you get pics/feedback on it, please PM me and let me know, so I can check it out!
Thanks again for taking the time to give us your feedback/experience with us! We truly appreciate it! Have a wonderful holiday!
