Actually that's about the same price my Ford Dealer charged to replace gears. It was under warranty and had to have Ford advisor come in to OK it.
Just remember a dealer has huge amounts of overhead and they replaced everything on my 2004 Mach1. They also did a great job.

I also would like to upgrade my gears. I have seen the complete rear ends from Ford Racing at some of the vendors for about $1000-$1200. That is the way I am leaning. Depending upon which you choose, some have better axles and other stuff, although not an issue on a 6. It would all be factory set up, so it should be good to go. Then, I could keep my factory rear, if I ever thought I would want to switch it back, or sell it to recoup a chunk of my investment. Those that have 3.31 rears could probably do pretty good selling theirs to people with the base gears in their v-6 cars.

I was intrigued so much by that $900 dollar quote i decided to call my dealership here in So Cal. Provided that I brought them the gears and install kit they quoted me just over 5 hours of labor and $650 + tax. My buddy owns a local shop and he quoted me $450 out the door.

Hope this helps!

Why would you pay tax on labor?

Yeah I live here too. I don't think you're legally inclined to pay tax on labor. I work at a service center, and we don't charge tax on labor, only on parts.

I work at a ford dealership, I was quoted roughly the same price, 900 and some change - I haven't done it yet.

I love posts like this. About as little information provided as possible on a price that is much as two thirds less than anybody else.

Where did you have all this installed (city, state)? By a dealer? A speed shop? Your cousin Vinny? WHAT???

Sorry bro. The automotive shop is called AMJ Automotive Services
Grasonville, MD 21635
410-827-6440 work

The installer is a Karl Himmighoefer
This mechanic does a great job and knows his muscle cars. Loves to work on Mustangs. Just a local automotive shop but Karl is their head mechanic and knows his cars. The install was shy of 300 dollars and even installed my one piece aluminum driveshaft for no additional charge. Hope this helps .
