3.31 rear gear install / speedometer adjust

I just had a set of 3.31 ford racing rear gears installed on my 2013 v6 man. trans. and tried to update my bc with my diablosport intune. I was able to change the setting from the standard 2.73 to the 3.31 on the intune and than programmed the car but that didn't do anything I guess. The speedo is off and the diffrence from the gps speed gets worse the faster I drive.
What can I do, any ideas? Is the ratio really programmable or do I have to change the hardware somehow?

ugh, I don't know much about tuners. But..... do you get free tunes from anyone like bama, steeda, redliners? They probably have to send you an update.

No, i don't get any free tunes, but i am in contact with someone from diablosport. He told me to send him the original backup and the last installed tune file. There could be a problem within the tune file ...

I could've sworn the only place able to correct the speedo is the dealer. But I could be wrong. Although I would be surprised if the tuner couldn't do it

I'll send him the files next weekend as soon as I get back home. Hope he can fix the problem, it's a pain in the bud to drive with this irritating readings...

Why should only a dealer be able to change that?

If your tune is an 'opened tune' you can adjust the tire and wheel size by revolutions per mile and any rear gear ratio (and a few other things) in the 'settings' before you load the tune. Some tunes are 'closed' and can't adjust anything. I made sure all my tunes are 'opened' tunes.

It is an open tune, according to the intune I can adjust wheel, tire size, rear gears and quite a few more items but in my case the rear gear adjust doesn't work. And I don't have a clue why.
All my previous changes did work, like speed limiter and so on...

There might be something wrong with the preloaded tune file on the diablo tuner. It needs to be updated by them.

Because if you can manually adjust it, there is no way the speedometer should show an incorrect reading. Definitely sounds like it didn't make the gear change in the tune.

Just received the second modified tune from diablo and it finally seems to work!

The car feels much better now, quicker acceleration during all phases of driving. You can even cruise in six gear and accelerate without shifting down all the time. Great improvement, they should have delivered the car that way. I think I even save some gas, I simply don't have to change gears all the time 👍

Couldn't agree more. I've driven 2.73 gears on an Auto, found shifting sluggish and gears were really long.

haven't driven 3.73 so I can't comment on those. mine came with 3.31 gears and you're right. It is nice to be able to accelerate in 6th without having to constantly downshift

Some tunes allow you to adjust it on your own

Today I tried to use a different tune with my intune but I encountered the same problem again. Most of the modifications work but as soon as I dial in the 3.31 gears, my car does not do the change, meaning the speedo is of again.
Did anybody experience the same problem using the diablosport intune?

I am thinking 3.31's are my next mod. How much did the dealer charge?

Yes. If you are going through the effort to do a gear change just get the 3.73. My V6 came with 3.31 from the factory which i thought was fine until switching to 3.73's. The difference is dramatic.

^ Are there any cons of 3.73 gears? (Any noise or other issues?)

MPG will obviously take a hit, plus first will be even more useless on the street (unless you like first being super short...).

I've been considering 3.73's just so I can more easily start in second more often. I think first is too short even with 3.31's...

My fuel economy bone stock with 3.31s was never what ford advertised. I got at best 27 on the highway. With 3.73 and a supercharger i am still getting 27 on the highway, 23 combined.

I have no gear whine, no issues with noise. My tuner did the install of the gears when he did my tune. I went with them because i will be tracking my car next year and was told i will have greater exit speeds out of the corners. The difference is already evident when already doing 70 on the freeway all i have to do is get on the throttle and pull away in 6th without having to downshift.

Mine sees a lot of highway use, I was thinking the 3.31's would perk it up in the city but not hurt the gas mileage on the highway. I also don't want to have to mess with a tune which could void the warranty, and if I understand things correctly Ford can reprogram it for the 3.31's since it is a factory option.
