Will headers make me louder?

Hi all,

I've read a few posts that headers will make these cars louder.

I've installed headers on a few vehicles but never without changes to the rest of the exhaust as well. I don't see how headers alone would effect the sound volume out of the pipes.

Does anyone have any proof either way?

I'm trying to choose between an o/r-x only or same with longtubes. I don't want loud, only want to eliminate the cats for peace of mind when eventually going supercharged. Thought it was just cost vs. power, but if headers will make me louder I will stick with just the o/r pipe. Keeping stock mufflers as well.

Thanks.

Drive normal and your all good. Rev it up and it's loud. Gives it an awesome pur sound. I wouldn't change a thing. Only you can make it loud.

Thanks for the replys and the vids. Still no answer to my question, so I'll try to clarify.

All else being equal, will LT headers with an off-road x-pipe be any louder than the stock header/manifolds with a Lethal/BBR/UPR type off-road x-pipe?

Does anyone have first-hand experience with both set-ups with the same over-axle pipes and mufflers?

If headers are louder, what theory is there to support that?

Thanks again, Jeff

Headers alone will not make it any louder. Midpipes and mufflers will give you louder exhaust.

Thanks Al, that's what makes sense.

Reading some posts saying otherwise just got me thinking there may be more to it.

I should know better than to believe what I read on the internet!

Headers will help equal the flow before the collectors and may actually quiet it a little.

Every 11-12 5.0 I've heard has been pretty **** loud with LTs. Even with high flow cats.

You guys talking about headers not making the car louder are nuts. My 2010 got much louder after I installed longtubes, and 5.0s that I've heard with longtubes and HFC's sound bad a##

Did u end up taking him?

OP- your car WILL be louder, we've been saying it since the first few posts. The only thing that will really mellow out your car a tad is an after-cat X pipe

Deleting the cats will make the biggest difference in loudness but LT's will also make the car louder. Have a buddy that was totally stock and the first mod he put on was LT's and tune and the car definitely was louder.
