Seems like this issue has gone away...is that true?

Was a definitive cause ever found? Do current "safe" tunes give up any power compared to the earlier ones that led to damaged pistons?

Tuners were messing with knock sensors and advancing the timing too much. Haven't heard anything recent about this.

Not sure about any power difference.

I havent heard anything about this in a while too. Hopefully all tuners have backed off on the timing and left the knock sensors on. I plan to go for a Steeda cai/tune around early next yr.

Bingo....and even so the problem was sooo much less rampant than many were trying to make out of it. It went mt-82 to number 8 piston tooooo.....let me think, I'm gonna say faulty valve stems causing the air conditioner to seize making the windshield washers impossible to use.....**** u ford **** u.

That's pretty promising... I guess the cause was obvious in hindsight but it's not always so clear for those of us who blindly dump in a canned tune and keep our fingers crossed.

I am starting to consider a CAI and tune again after swearing to stay stock until the dust settled.

Is there any clear winner for canned tunes these days? I have tunes for life with Bama but they may have been one of the shops that ruined some #8s...

There's been multiple people on this forum and others that have blamed Bama for their problems.

OP, go with a Jon Lund tune. That's my choice and others seem to be happy as well.

Bama warranty's their tunes so u have no worries their. I am running a steeda tune until I get dyno tuned and steeda has a decent tune! Most tunes are safe and the #8 issue has been pinned on advancing timing to much and messing with the knock sensors. So tuners have adjusted tunes to avoid these problems. IMO just do it u will enjoy the extra power and better throttle response!

Right. Its Brenspeed that has left owners hanging.

Not being rude at all. How come you disagree? I've just read some threads where some people decided to go with another tuner due to issues with Bama regardless of their warrenty. It might be a small amount of people, just caught my eye.

I've also read the same thing about Brenspeed.

Also, I'm sad to say it but I'm a Rangers fan.

That's all hearsay, only 1 person admitted Bama. It was later proven the tune didnt cause the failure....and it wasn't a #8 if I remember correctly.

Sam had one of the better documented threads incl pics from breakdown of engine.

His reply concerning getting rid of Brenspeed tune and their pathetic lack of taking care of their customer:

Are u talking about blown engines or just Aggravating problems with the tune like throwing engine lights? I have a buddy that has been having issues with his bama tune and he did a data log and sent it to bama so they could tune it better. Last few days he has had problems with his tune car is throwing a air/fuel imbalance code causing engine light.

I personally run a steeda canned race tune. Until I custom dyno tune that is

Could you tell a difference between the Steeda tune and dyno'd bbr? Which Steeda tune did you have?

Tomorrow I have a dyno session scheduled and am going to get them to data log my pulls and send to steeda so they can fine tune my tune the best they can! Will be the closest thing to a dyno tune that I can get until I actually get dyno tuned. Will post my results with the canned race tune.
