What will happen? Dropped off the Mustang for service, JLT oil separator in place

So I have been very happy with my local Ford dealership's service department. The oil changes are surprisingly reasonable (considering the 8 quarts of synthetic blend) and not having to dispose of the oil is a wonderful thing. This is my 4th oil change in 10,500 miles...so that's helpful . Also, I couldn't quite get under the car enough with my ramps to install the Boss 302 Quad exhaust H-Pipe...so they're installing that as well for "an hour or so" worth of labor...which I thought was more than fair. I can't wait to pick it up this afternoon!

But...I'm curious as to what will happen related to the JLT oil separator that I installed. I drank the Kool-Aid and finally agreed that removing some/most ofthe oil vapors from the intake stream is almost definitely good thing for engine longevity...but it's not a Ford approved part. Are they going to tell me that my warranty is gone because of this part?

Has anyone else brought their car to the dealer with an oil separator or similar mod in place? What happened?

I'll let everyone know what transpires...but I'd really appreciate any feedback. The service department is friendly and they seem like reasonable folks but they do answer to Mother FoMoCo who'd like nothing more than to take the warranty and toss it into the shredder.

Absolutely not, there isnt any type of damage that it could cause, so theres no way for them to ever deny a claim.

I'd be surprised if they even noticed it.

And why 4 oil changes in 10k miles? That's unnecessary.

It's excessive, of course...but I had the first one done after 1000 miles (the value of which is debatable...but it's something i have always done) once each time I have brought it out after sitting all winter, and once in the middle of last summer after ~3000 miles of driving...for a total of four changes.

You're changing your oil like its 1985, and I wouldn't worry about the dealership. You give them money unnecessarily, so don't worry, they love you.

You only go 3000 miles? Get out of the 80's man. You can go much much longer than that.

Heck, I go up to 10k on my changes. Ford says 10k miles, a year, or when the car says its time, whichever comes first.

Haha...probably true.

I know, I know...but I love to rev the hell out of the motor, drive around in 3rd gear, etc. I don't abuse the car but this is certainly "severe duty" and I consider this to be relatively cheap maintanence. It helps me sleep at night.

Besides, I'm keeping an eye out for the 2015(?) SRT Barracuda...but unless that car knocks my socks off, I'll probably keep this Mustang until I'm an old man (which is several decades off, BTW).

Hey, it's your money man.

If you wanna spend it on lots and lots of oil changes, go for it.

I'd rather get more mods and change the oil when required, but that's just me.

3k might be a little excessive but if it's what he wants to do then so be it. I personally do mine every 5k, which oddly enough works out to right around the time my info center starts bugging me to change the oil lol. Guess that's a symptom of a lot of city driving.

I do mine between 5-6k And I have somewhere in the ballpark of 30% on the message screen! OP stop wasting your money on excessive oil changes lol, I'd be more concerned on your ridding around at redline in 3rd IMOP.

Ok... you guys were right. They said nada about the little black cannister with the J, the L and the T on it. So...I'm glad about that.

3,000 mile oil changes aren't that big of a deal for a car that you only drive about 8,000 miles/year.
No info center in my base model...so I'd stay on the safe side and change more often.

In other news, good God, I love the Boss quad exhaust with the restrictor plates out. WOW...like a new car. It's raw, snarly and natural sounding...very loud yet not offensive, no drone at all. I'm in love.

Now just get the QTP electronic cutouts and you can control the growl.

What dealership do you go too? You should join up on the Late Model Mustang Club of CT. One of the vendors there is the sales manager of a central Ford dealership where they wouldn't give you a hard time.

I go to Sarat Ford in Agawam, MA just over the CT border...the service dept. has been excellent...much more on their game than the sales folks.

I'd love to hear more about the club. Do you guys have a web page?

I change my oil when my info center says to. It's mostly done on a time basis as opposed to a mileage basis.

Day two with the Boss quad exhaust-- I'm pretty sure that this is the perfect exhaust system for this engine...at least in terms of sound. You just never know if you're going to like it until it's installed...but I lucked out!
