Tuner Questions
Can a tech determine if it has been reflashed with equipment at the dealership?
Can ford determine this by logging in to the system remotely?
There is a senior service tech on modded mustangs who is also the moderator named Marc and he has stated he can see it. He would have no reason to lie.
Was the Malaysian jet powered by a 5.0?

But yeah, what's with the blood between grabber and Matt? Must be some history there.....
As for the op, yeah, this question was asked a lot before... I think in the end, getting a tune is at your own risk. And depends on the dealer/tech working on your car, perhaps they will see traces that it's had a tune, perhaps not. But if you're willing to get a tune, your risk. Just pick a reputable tune.

I didn't read all the comments, mainly because you'll read more opinions and arguments on this topic. This is what I have learned from my experience. Once you return your car back to stock the tune itself is gone, traces such as a "flash ticker" is there however, that can happen everytime you go to the dealership and they have to do something with your computer.
Also, your tune has to be the direct cause of failure of a specific part. When my transmission blew on our 2011 I simply brought it back to the dealer, at that time I had a 2.3 whipple, 1 pc driveshaft, etc. The dealership I brought it to replaced the entire unit without question and while they were at it, they asked if I wanted to give them a new clutch and flywheel while they had the car apart. Never asked, and I was expecting to have to do the work myself.
So with that being said, it all depends on the dealership as well. But all this can be eliminated just by going with a good tuner. We at Hypermotive have our own tuner who has tuned over 5k+ S197's and we also provide VMP tunes as well. Give us a shout, My tuner and myself can answer any questions you may have.

On the IDS, I can't see where I would look to see if the PCM (or any other module for that matter) has been flashed.
But I admit that I am just learning how to use it. But already I know how to do more than some of the tech guys I was working with at the dealership. My guess is that most of them don't know how to look for the reflashing counter.
As for the hate on Matt - I have to add my 2 cents here: Matt has been a valuable contributor to the community here. He may not be the be all and end all to the forums, but he has been a valuable asset to the MustangSource.

Basically it will come down to your dealership...I have a good relationship with mine. And they have gone the extra mile for me on stuff and looked the other way. They replaced my rear brakes for me after 30,000 miles even though the cause of the squeak and damage was rubber chunks embedded in the brake pad that had scored my rear rotors from my trips to the drag strip. But they told me if something fails and they over look it. Doesn't mean Ford Corporate won't send one of their engineers to look at the failure and then I will be up the creek without a paddle. I've had tunes on my car since 500 miles. No issues (knock on wood)
That is true. Don't we all as we drive our GHIG Mustang's. LOL
Not to mention the fact that I took a lot of heat as I was one of those that was modding the tar out of a Thunderbird SC for years. May I add the car was also teal. LOL. You want to talk about needing thick skin. LOL. A supercharged 6 cylinder and teal to boot. LMAO.
The mods on that car were as follows:
3.5" CAI
85MM MAF
85MM TB
Customer Supercharger
Custom Front Mount Intercooler
#60 injectors
340 lph Stealth fuel pump
ported cylinder heads
custom grind cam
MLS head gaskets
ARP cylinder head studs
aftermarket manley valve train components
manley pushrods
Roller rockers
Custom Kooks Headers
Custom Exhaust
Custom BHJ Crankshaft dampener
3.73 gears
custom stall converter
Tuned via a Moates Quarter Horse and Binary Editor
For a 6 cylinder the car was a beast. Pushed 18 pounds of boost with AIT's of about 120 degrees under full boost. Not too bad.
I know I know this is a Mustang site. I am done. I just wanted you folks to know that I have thick skin. Obviously toying around with an old Bird like this. LOL

What rwhp were you putting down?
About 320 ish. I say that as I have never had the vehicle dyno'd. Just factoring weight and 1/4 mile times and using that for calculation. Considering all of those mods, I know it is pretty sad. :-) That's a Ford 3.8 for you with cylinder heads designed back in 1984. LOL
