Track times with Steeda CAI and Tune!!

Went to SGMP Sat night to make some passes. Only the 2nd time out with the car. Wanted to compare Stock to CAI and tune, and then Nitto's.

It's our 2011 Mustang 5.0 with a 6 speed manual and factory 3.31 gears and 235 tires.

Only managed a 12.99 at 112 in stock form after 3 passes with a good amount of tire spin. It was hot out and the track was slick. Went a 12.93 two weeks ago stock (3 passes).

Then put the Steeda CAI and tune on it and headed back out. The third pass netted a sick 12.45 @ 115.51mph with a 1.91 sixty foot on the stock 235 tires! Track was working better and I was really slipping the clutch.

Finally I bolted up the Nitto NT05R's to see what it could do on the radials. After several passes I was able to go 12.235 and a 12.239 both at 114mph. Sixty foots were a shocking 1.76 and 1.78 on those last two passes. Corrected those passes are in the 11's with only cai, tune and Nittos.

Needless to say, with just a CAI, tune and some 17" Nitto's this car is a serious player!! Stock suspension too, only thing was some prototype lowering springs (which don't help the drag strip). Temps were above 90 too!!

Video of the 12.28, with a 1.83 short time...

Nice runs, this 5.0 is a beast! were you powershifting? how did you launch, (rpm) dump or slip?

Thanks!

No power shifting, I'm not a fan. If your quick with your shifts you can do micro lifts and still be as quick down the 1/4. This is testing the new shifter, but you can see I still lift my right leg slightly.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0uEgBr-9RaM

As for the launching, I'm ALL ABOUT SLIPPING the clutch. Stock tires I was launching it around 3800 rpms. Got a 1.91 short on the stock 18" 235's. Once I bolted on the Nitto's I was launching at 5200 and really slipping the clutch. Biggest thing is getting that clutch COOL after a pass to help the life of it.

Nice technique man! I have a WOTBOX i'm still getting used to, but I a fan "micro-lifting" and do it much better than straight powershifting, as well as slipping the clutch on street tires lol

I shall disagree with you that a lift-throttle of any sort is just as quick as powershifting (assuming good traction), but it certainly will enhance the longevity of a variety of driveline parts (especially input shafts and shift forks), so I don't blame you at all for lifting the throttle....if even slightly.

As stated on a previous forum...nice runs!

Thanks Bob.

I'll agree with you. Cause if someone is at my door I'm shifting 4th with the gas welded to the floor lol.

LOL. I don't know of any other way to go down the drag strip than with my right foot planted to the floor. LOL. That works great on a tire.....but if its on hard-compound street stuff....well....Houston, we have a problem.

Good luck to you guys.
