Is there any market for factory axle back takeoffs?
I see lots of posts of people swapping out the factory GT mufflers for aftermarket axle backs (which makes sense- just installed the GT500s, and they sound much better than stock).
However, I now have 40 pounds of mufflers sitting in the garage taking up space. I'm assuming there is absolutely zero demand for these things- since everyone who converts is converting away from them. I don't suppose they can be used as a V6 upgrade or anything?

I think the V6 pipes are a different diameter? You're probably right that the market is pretty small. Best bet is to find a local buyer as shipping will exceed the value of the mufflers.
Yeah, after the initial posting I decided to do a quick check on eBay to see if there were any for sale. Sure enough, there are a bunch for $95-100 (of course, I don't think I saw a single one that actually had a bid on them
).
Seems a shame to toss out a set of chrome tipped mufflers with less than 1,000 miles on them- but better to toss them now than to keep them around taking up space and then toss them 3 years from now!
Too bad Ford didn't include the GT500 mufflers in the track package- seems like a no-brainer (they could have charged a small premium in the cost of the package, and I doubt the GT500 mufflers cost them any more than the standard GT mufflers- probably less even).
Now I'll sit back and see if any of the "trash vultures" snag up the parts before the trash guy can get them (when I was restoring the '65, every old part I put out there would be gone within an hour or so- even a partially delaminated windshield).

Different year, but I just bought some from a fellow member. I'm about to get a custom exhaust made with no mufflers, so I'm getting them in case I need them for inspection issues.
The people trying to make money on them are crazy though...They're worthless, if you can't get them for cheap or free.

I took mine to the recycling center and got 80 bucks. 40 for each catalytic converter so I had a good day that day. Didn't have to bother with CL.
Opps just realized you are speaking of the axle backs only. Yeah. I got 10 bucks for those at the recycler.

I'll give my stocks to a friend that owns a local tire & muffler shop. He sells for labor cost to those that need help on the cost of new exhaust parts. I'm sure he can adapt them to some other vehicles. I do the same with used take-off tires. Kinda like donating to the needy.
