Not sure who the question was directed towards but mine is the oil fed unit and was shipped empty. When I took the cap off the drain port one small drip came out.
OR if you are asking about the engine oil, no you shouldn't have to drain and shouldn't loose any.

Yeah, engine oil. I should have been more clear. FI newbi here. I run Amsoil and just wondered if I needed to get more before the install.

TommyV, if you get the Vortech V3 or the newest version of the Paxton, they are self contained and have their own oil. They have a drain as well as fill plug and dipstick. If you get the V2 or oil fed units, you will have to drain your oil as you need to drill and tap into your oil pan to get a source for oil to lubricate the head unit.

If you do it correct you can punch and tap the oil pan and not have to drain the oil

Punch?

When using a tap you should use the appropriate "tap drill size" drill bit.

Punches are tapered, you use the tapered punch to create a hole to the correct "tap drill size" which in this case is approximately 9/16".
The punch serves two important purposes
1.) it rolls the material inward, allowing plenty of wall for the tap to create sufficient threads
2.) it does not create any chips like drilling a hole would

You then pack the tap flutes with grease to catch the chips from falling into the oil pan.

Again, if done CORRECT there should be no concern of chips in the oil pan or insufficient threads.
