I installed GT500 mufflers then deleted the sound tube and couldn't tell a difference

Thank you! I have the same mufflers. You made my decision for me. Thank you for sharing.

I cannot find a cap anywhere to fit. I have spent more time searching on the net for the proper part, then I see 3 different sizes and 8 different part numbers. Visited Lowe's and Ace and they have nothing that will work.

Here is what I used from Ace Hardware and it fits perfect if you are talking about the cap that covers the hole in your air intake tube. 1 1/2" black rubber leg tip.

D@mn you all. I'm considering doing this now. Thanks to this thread, my tube has suddenly become an eyesore.

No. It's always been one.

But now that we un-plugged you, you can see the matrix ... err, I mean, the tube, for what it really is.

I can't tell a difference with mine off either. I only removed mine because I mounted the RX catch can in that corner for my catch can test. I probably would have just left it on if it wasn't for that. I do like how the engine compartment looks better without it.

Why waste your time driving around and searching for a part that may or may not work? The 1st page of this thread tells you where to get a kit online for $12. I will even add the link to make it easier for you.

Does that help?

I know this is a 5.0 post, but has anyone tried the cool tech kit on a 2010? I cannot locate the lowes part in my area. Thanks.

FYI - I contacted cool tech and they advised that it would fit a 2010.

I finally made it by Ace and got the 1.5 inch chair leg cap or whatever it is. I used the original clamp.

I had no idea it would make that much difference but it really did. I no longer have the little annoying sound especially at lower RPM's when given some throttle. Glad to be rid of the sound tube.

BTW, I have GT500 midpipes and axle backs so for those with louder than stock GT exhaust that are not hearing the sound tube, you're just not aware of the sound evidently.

I found someone on Ebay selling the caps that fit the air tube. It looks like the one that Lowes used to sell and fits perfect with a tiny bit of trimming. I have 3 left if anyone might be interested. Drop me a pm if you are interested. I will post a pic up tomorrow of the extra cap and the one I installed.

If anyone is thinking of buying just the Airaid intake tube, it comes with the plugs for the sound tube delete. I did mine this morning.

The tube looks great, and the sound tube delete really cleans up the engine bay.

I'm glad you found one. I didn't even use the factory clamp or any clamp because the cap fit snug enough without it.

I will be doing this mod this week, I installed the MMD hood struts yesterday and it required me to relocate the mount point for this thing and now it just looks crappy and needs to go. Looks like I need to make some trips to Ace and Autozone tonight.

1-1/2" PVC cap from Lowe's.
Text on the end removed and painted black.
It looks a bit out of place but better than the snake of tube it replaced.

I am thinking about drilling a hole in the end of the plug and adding a kazoo.
Maybe it will sound like a blow-off valve?

Good idea! You could vary the throttle to play different tunes
