NEW PRODUCT Barton Shifter Bracket
OK, I read thru EVERY post in this thread and maybe this Q was answered, but I am still not sure: Can the Barton bracket be installed on an otherwise stock/unmodified transmission/shifter? If so, will the difference be perceptible?
Reason being is I am OK with the stock shift throw but I've noticed that especially the 2-3 and 4-5 shifts can be a little "grind-ey" if done quickly, and it seems like this little Barton bracket may help that. My thinking is that I can squeak this $79 device under the Spousal Radar, whereas maybe in the future (a year from now?) I can upgrade the shifter with the Barton piece. [But I don't want to send $79 if it's not going to make any perceptible difference with the stock shifter.] Can someone please confirm that this is correct?
Anyone? Anyone?

just put mine on the other day with the factory shifter....I expected it to remove more of the slop than it did, but improvements can still be felt. The whole assembly still moves around a bit.
I don't think it will solve issue #2 though as everything you feel now you'll feel more with the bracket. The cold 1-2 shift grind is now MUCH more noticeable on mine. Fine when everythng warms up, but definitely more noticeable now when cold.. Less rubber now between the shifter assembly and the transmission.

Double-EDad- When making the "quick shifts" is where this bracket shines. Your stock bracket is allowing the shifter to move out of position when your shifting hard, which is causing the "grind-ey" feeling.
Modshack- The bracket will not eliminate all the slop, there still has to be some give as the transmission torques, But it should eliminate what Double-EDad is experiencing on quick shifts which is where he is having the problems.
Hope this helps.
Thanks,
Dave

I installed the Barton shifter busing/bracket and white shifter ball with the Steeda Shifter. It's a great combo! The allen screws on the bushing are tricky when you are using jack stands. Being able to stand up under the car with a lift would have made screwing them in a 2 minute job. You can do the whole job in 40 minutes or less if you hussle. I would bet faster on with a lift.
I installed my shifter and bracket this morning. Overall it went pretty smooth, getting the rubber boot seated back took some effort and tightening the 4 hex screws on the hanger bracket were slightly challenging, but the whole thing from start to finish maybe took 3 hours on my garage floor.
As for the difference from stock, the throw is considerably less, the engagements are much more solid, the ball and the spacer are a definite upgrade from the stock unit. This is what a muscle car shift should be.... Well worth the money...
Bought directly from the Barton website using paypal. Shifter, ball and bracket, 400 out the door.

Some things that helped our Steeda Shifter/Barton Bushing install...
1. Got all tools ready and watched the install videos a few times and read the directions a few times, didn't have to use them during the install.
2. A friend helped with jacking up car and jack stands and handing me tools and parts. Saves a ton of time with a 3rd and 4th hand.
3. We used a 12" flexible extension with our allen head and ratchet to make a quick job for the allen screws on the Barton Shifter Bracket. An L-shap allen wrench or T-handle allen would not fit unless the drive shaft was out. Or if you had much smaller hands.
4. With the Rubber Boot, I started re-installing on the left side near the reverse lockout which seamed to make it easier. If the boot is in sloppy or rotated in the hole it may affect the reverse shift.
5. I used lock tight on everything just in case.
Going from a stock shifter to the Steeda was amazing, adding the Barton Bushing and Bracket took away the side-side slop in the factory unit. The clunky noise is far less and it's really just a solid shift that you feel. Rowing the gears is much easier and much faster. Hard shifts feel right too.
The factory shifter parts look like cheap gokart peices compared to the Steeda and Barton parts. I added the white Barton ball and **** adapter for looks.
I took some pics and added a few in my profile.
Wheels and suspension parts will be orederd in a few weeks.

Got my barton shifter and bracket today. Pieces look VERY WELL MADE. Hopefully this weekend I will be able to get it on along with my steeda cai and tune. Should be a very fun weekend!

Howdy Gentlemen. I've not bought a GT yet but am planning on ordering w/in 2 months.
Rather relieved to read this thread. I'd become quite concerned reading about issues many seem to have been having with the MT 82, and had since been leaning towards the 6-speed auto. I'd come to the conclusion that the shifter mount and design were likely contributing to some of the issues.
This product and their shifter look like a good investment to me.
Can I assume most of you with the manual transmission will give me a thumbs up for ordering the car the way I want, with the 6-spd manual?
Also, can you (Mr. Barton) tell me if installing this will void my power train warranty?

Just sayin'.

My Barton shifter bracket showed up at my door yesterday. Man, this thing is a QUALITY piece, well wrapped, and was shipped here quickly by Barton. Couldn't be happier, considering it's almost 8 weeks until I can install it and drive my car again, thanks to having my left foot in a cast.
Even my wife, who is tough to impress and didn't know I'd ordered it (I figured I could slip it in the under $100 item budget threshold
) was impressed, especially after showing her the photo of the stock piece, which looks like something Homer Simpson would have conjured up.
Thanks Barton, can't wait to install this baby.
The short-throw shifter will have to wait - just got the $4500 tab for my daughter's braces, which get installed next week.

Heres a vid of me shifting mine a bit (the first part was for the shifting thread over at allfordmustangs and can be skipped, the fast shifts are at the end)

Gotta agree that the barton shifter and bracket are amazing. I also have no doubt the Steeda piece is fantastic. I chose Barton for somewhat shorter shifts and I'm really enjoying it. Ultimately both companies are putting out high quality.
I am going to be looking to pick up the barton shifter and bracket soon... any chance I can get it for cheaper than $350? Any sales or forum promo codes or used ones yet? ?
Was going to order from americanmuscle, but any little bit helps.
