Muscle Evolved: Modding a Mustang GT
Muscle Evolved: Modding a Mustang GT

In my last post, “2013 Mustang GT: The Perfect Purchase?” - I went over the reasons as to why I laid down my hard-earned greenbacks on America’s favorite pony car. For me, it was the great combination of value, reliability and performance that the Mustang GT offered. However, after a few years of ownership, it was time for me to take the car to the next level.

Power-wise, the 5.0L under the hood is just about perfect with its 420 hp and 390 lb-ft of torque. Combine that with a 3.73 gear ratio that the track pack offers, and you now have a car that has the ability to utilize 100 percent of its power without getting you killed (a good thing). I understand there are those who feel they need 500, 600 or 700 hp to go fast, and in a straight line, maybe that’s true.

Good write up. Now when are we going to see some vehicles on Big Muscle that are actually interesting? I haven't watched an episode in months because the vehicle selection has been so uninteresting. A 59 Apache pickup truck? Really? Get something on that show that has production date in the 80's or 90's at least.
Very nice.
Is that the Cortex Watts system? How do you like it?
I take it you do a lot of auto-x? Don't need a ton of horsepower and torque is right. Just enough. It's about suspension, tires and driver mod.

I think you nailed it. Glad to see this writeup and the video. Laguna Seca is a fairly technical course.
I track my car as well, and I've been looking at option to keep the rear end more plated and reduce pitch/dive and roll as well. The Watt's setup looks interesting, but I have some doubts about a diff mounted setup.
Do you think you cold follow up this piece with another review on the impact these changes made to your daily drivability, and how the setup is holding up after ~1 year and some other track days? Thanks!

Sorry for the late reply - been traveling. I'm actually working on the third article now that will cover every part placed on the car including some new additions. I'll go over how it drives on the street, how my last 4 track days have been and overall, what else, if anything, I'll be doing to the car in the future.
Stay tuned!
Stay tuned!
Mike, I don't suppose you'd be open to letting me take your car for a quick spin? I really really want a watts link, but I've never driven a car with one. Even back when I had my 00 V6, I had planned on doing an 8.8" rearend with a watts link. My 03 GT had an IRS swap with the entire Maximum Motorsports catalog, so going back to a completely stock suspended car sucks! I can't wait to get some better suspension on mine, and I already have a few items waiting to be installed.
