MMR CAI Dyno results inside!!!!
Dyno testing of the MMR CAI is complete and the results are dissapointing to say the least. ALL DYNO PULLS WERE DONE ON STOCK TUNING. Airfuel measurements were taken post cat with a wideband.
Hot off the street with the stock airbox the car made 365.69/345.39 SAE, stock tuning. Backup pull 5 minutes later 366.31/346.72
23 minutes later after installing the MMR CAI..... 375.60/337.30 but those hp numbers are misleading. When you see the graph you will understand why. The car is down on power thruout the entire pull and there is a spike at the very top that gives that max hp number. Tq is incredibly down with this intake the entire pull.
Backup MMR CAI pull 5 minutes later 370.54/329.05 with the exact same spike and down on tq. The backup pull to that one is identical.
Spent 5 minutes putting the stock airbox back on and got.... 368.53/350.57 and the spike was gone plus torque was back up 20.
Its a nice fit and finish CAI but they obviously built it with CA emissions in mind because I had one extra fitting at the metal elbow that needed to be capped off (no cap included or mention of that in the one sheet instructions). Also there is no hardware or instructions to secure the heatsheild to the fender and it does not pull air from the stock airbox feed tube. Overall I would rate it a 3 out of 10 only because it looks nice but does not perform anywhere near as advertised. Some youtube videos will accompany this post later.
I have attached the graphs with as much information on them as possible. Now its on to the next product to test and to continue our WMS Custom tuning that we started immediatly after the CAI test today.
Thanks,
JJ

I knew it. You wonder about all these no tune CAI. They probably are able to make the hp gains because of BS like this. Thanks JJ. Great to have guys like you telling the truth and not just trying to make a fast buck. We shall see what CNL delivers.

Trust me guys I wish this would have made the power that they claimed and would have worked as advertised but it didnt so we are going to move forward and test other products as well. Hopefully we can get our hands on a C&L and test it as well.

My gut feeling is that this CAI does require some tuning to extract a few ponies out of it but thats not how it was advertised. I'm not talking about retuning it for airfuel as that did not change from stock to MMR, I'm talking about tuning other areas that might be affected by this CAI. I will report back what I find sometime next week. I want to exhaust all possibilities before sending it back.

Will you be testing th C L intake as well?

Great work JJ. It's nice to see someone doing straight up honest testing. You have nothing to gain or lose from posting the results. I'm interested to see if tuning the MMR intake makes it more worthwhile. It's clear stock out of the box it's doing more harm then good.

I want to see a tune both with and without the intake. See how much can be wrung out of both configurations.

If the power was down across whole the RPM range I would say that it is somehow more restrictive than the stock part. The jump in horsepower at the top of the range would indicate that there are likely some resonance effects in play.

I still maintain that their design is flawed. The turn radius just in front of the throttle body is too tight and too close to the throttle body in my opinion. There is room to have more straight section in front of the throttle body and a more generous radius in the pipe.

We're far from the days when the 5.0 pushrod would gain 10-12hp and as much torque with a cold air kit and K/N filter. Thx for the testing and posting it. Hope these guys are reading about this crappy piece of %$&.
