Looks to be new. Last summer when I was checking K&N's website it only gave the option for the drop in.

I wonder if it will need a tune.

I didn't think K&N was going to make a CAI for the 5.0! I'm impressed. I do prefer the closed-in air box design.

This looks nice but I question the dyno numbers. They dyno'd it with the lid off off of the airbox. The only reason why they would do this is to make more power. The limiting factor for the factory CAI, it only flows 800 cfm. The K&N sealed up will have the same limitation or cfm.

Yep, the question is - are K&N's intakes so good they don't need a tune whereas every other good intake does?

No tune = running lean or low power gain.

The reason why other cai's require a tune is because the mass air flow housing is larger and takes in more air. Any cai's that have the stock size mass air flow housing will not require a tune.

So would you believe the 20 HP gain stated by K&N? If so, that's pretty dang impressive without a tune and a great option for those of us that want a little more power but don't want to mess with tuning and voiding a warranty.

I don't believe anything over 5hp gain from a CAI w/out a tune

+1. The stock cai setup is pretty efficient and aftermarket cai's only gain 5-10 HP over the stock setup most of the gains will come from tuning. But the after market cai look a lot better under the hood! Lol
