Ok.. I have a question.. First of all I am not a mechanic by no means, but this oil separator catches the oil instead of it going back into your engine were its supposed to be?? So if It catches oil and traps it, wont your engine be loosing some of the 8 quarts in the pan, that's required for the 5 liter engine? Just asking

The oil isn't going back in to the pan, it's coating the intake runners, valves and getting burned and shot out the exhaust. A separator just helps reduce the amount getting through and coating the intake and diluting the fuel

My theory is ford deemed that this wont cause THAT much of an issue to warrant putting them in at the factory. Heck, once it's out of warranty it's your problem anyway. Plus these cars have to appease to a wide range of people, not just us mod/obsessive guys. Having catch cans to empty on top of an oil change could be looked at as a hassle. And if missed, cause even more of a mess.
In the long run, it's extra insurance/protection for YOUR car. So if you want it, spend the money. If not, spend it elsewhere. Which is why I don't get why people get all defensive over them. Obviously they do work, just personal opinion of they are necessary.
