Installed cai now car jumpy
I just installed the steeda cold air intake 2 days ago on my 2011 gt manual n yesterday n today I feel like the car is a little jumpy while I'm getting the rpms up to shift into the next gear. It's slight not extremely noticeable but I think I feel it. Does anyone know what the problem could be? All I can think of right now is clamps r not tight enough, it's my imagination, maybe the cai requires a tune, or the little extra power wants to make the car go but I'm not home to check any of those. Does n e one have any other ideas?

Yes, the tune is REQUIRED. They even say it could damage your engine if you don't get it tuned. They have to tune it because of different MAF tube size(speculation). Stop driving it if you have no tune on.

Awesome thank you. I bought it with the tuner but I was going to wait to tune it because I wanted to make sure the check engine light didn't come on from the cai before I tuned it.

you're running WAY too lean. Tune ASAP to prevent engine Damage. Your CAI should have come with a warning message telling you not to attempt to use it without a tune...or at least whoever you bought it from should have told you that....

Yea it does, but you would have to assume they read the instructions carfully to see it. Not saying you did or didn't, but I did notice the warning could have been a bit more "noticeable".

You didnt get any engine codes? The 1401 or anything? I ran lean on my other mustang and had engine codes after 50 miles or so. drove me nuts until I got it tuned (funny thing, it was pre-tuned from BBK).

I ordered the combo pack and never seen a required tune notice. I read all directions for the intake install and nothing. Once someone on here said the tune was required I checked american muscle cold air only and that is where I saw it. I must not have driven far or long enough to get any engine codes cuz I had no check engine light. I just tuned the car and I noticed the jumpyness did go away and I do have added power. I love it.

The steeda cai does not have inserts, I think the only one I've seen was jlt or c&l (not sure exactly) that has the insert. I remember seeing the warning too for steedas. They should make it more visible on the instructions, like the whole first page.

Well the car is tuned I didnt run it a lot without the tune so I feel the car is still good. But the comment I made about the car being jumpy I now only notice when the car is still cold. I used to wait for the rpms to drop below one then drive now if the temp gauge is still on C. If I do that now I will feel a slight jump from the car while the rpms are increasing to the next shift. But once the car is warmed up it (the needle moves closer to the middle) it all goes away.

I returned the car to stock for a dealer visit and got distracted and forgot to put in the insert, well I couldn't even get it out of the garage until I put the insert in!!

You should use your insert for the Airaid tuned or not unless you are heavily modified. Without it you will get a lot of noise gets in the Maf signal.
Airaid said this themselves.
The MVT is there so the kit has the proper calibration and proper air fuel ratios. Removing the MVT will not result in a performance benefit as it is not a restriction in the system, but there for calibration.
The only time you would need to remove the MVT is if you were going very radical with modifications ie Heads, Camshaft, Forced induction, basically modifications that would constitute a complete custom tune.
If you are just going with basic bolt-ons, such as long tube headers, cat-back, or a hand held tuner I would advise leaving it in as that will result in the best performance and drive ability.
Thanks,
David
