Heartthrob off road pipes installed
Got my heartthrob off road pipes installed this afternoon and thought I'd post a few impressions.
First - These are just the downpipes that go from the stock headers to the factory h-pipe. The price was $122.60 plus shipping. They are made out of aluminized steel as I wasn't too concerned with rusting issues and the price is right.
Second - The install went fairly smoothly. Had a little bit of trouble getting to one of the passenger side bolts where the down pipe connects to the header. Also, the down pipes don't come with new studs, you have to re-use the stock ones or buy new ones. Only problem is that only one stock stud will come out from each cat unless you cut the cat. I wasn't concerned about cutting the stock cats so I just went ahead and did it.
Third - My exhaust set-up is as follows - Factory headers, heartthrob off road pipes, stock h-pipe and over axle pipes, and Roush axle backs. The exhaust sounds really mean now, I didn't notice any raspiness or drone, but I haven't had a chance to drive on the high way yet so it's hard to say how it will sound at a steady pace.
I don't have any pictures - sorry, I was in a real rush to get these on and I don't have any sound clips. I will try to work on getting some clips this weekend with my camera, it's not the greatest, but better than nothing.
Anyway for those interested here's a link to exactly what I got -

No problem. Seems accepted at this point that the stock cats are the biggest restriction in the exhaust. So I didn't see any point in spending $300+ on an off-road x or h when I can get almost all the benefits for less than $150.
