Header Install/Steering Shaft Help!!

Today I got started on installing my SW headers and things were going by quickly until I got to the part where I'm supposed to disconnect the steering shaft. I can get it to move about an inch, but it needs to slide about another inch before the U-joint will slip off. Anybody know what to do here? I've spent like 2 hours trying to get it loose. Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Finally got it out. Loosened the two bolts behind the pedals connecting to some thing around the shaft and that did the trick.

I've got another question. I was making pretty good progress getting things taken apart but I've hit a snag and it looks like I'm just gonna need to take this thing to a shop to get the job finished. So my question is (and I'm sorry if this is stupid, I just don't know) will running the car about 30 miles to the shop do any damage with only the manifolds on? The cats were a pain to get off and I really don't want to have to put them back on just to get the car to a shop.

It's gonna be loud as heck.

And the check engine light will prob come on, but I don't think it'll be a problem.
