GT500 Mufflers
The sound with the resonators removed is simply amazing. Might not be perfect for a coupe owner, but wow with my car being a convertible, I swear this mothereffer is channelling Steve McQueen and Bullitt. It's seriously perfection. Sings A freaking amazing tune. Quiet at idle, very smooth at lower RPMs, but trumpets a monster up top. The coyote 5.0 is honestly the best sounding V8 I have EVER heard.
I still have the resos installed, but **** it's close to the movie car ...
my girlfriend is a HUGE movie and SOUNDTRACK nerd. She actually used to own and run soundtrack.net -- she doesn't know much about cars really, but she even noted to me that the cars exhaust reminded her of bullitt. I explained that the engine/exhaust she was hearing in the movie was from a GT40, and she said it was awesome that this particular combo evokes such a similar sound.
even someone who loves movies noted this.

And I so wish it wasn't raining right now ... I'd already be in the car, driving ... somewhere ... anywhere ... lol

So no rasp or tinny sound with the resonator removed? I love the GT500 sound but I just wish it was a little louder. I don't think nothing beats the GT500 audio
Its definitely a true mustang signature sound and what made me fall in love with the 5.0 in the first place.

dude, just do it
kidding aside..if I had to guess it sounds exactly the same as in pitch but 10%-15% overall volume. Sorry I didnt have my radioshack spl meter to back it up
Look, its been written time and time and time again...if you gonna do the budget axleback, you must do the supplemental rezi mod....
hehe

I'd have to say the CAI is probably at the same volume with this muffler setup at WOT in my car. Ive actually read some people going back to GT 500 mufflers after LTs to leash the Kraken.

I also agree, sounds the same, just a hair louder at idle, and way awesomer under revs it's also now apparent when it phases to the other cam set. V-Tech just kicked in, yo.

I just installed this. Pain in the butt. My first impression is wow definitely more noticeable than stock, obviously. I have driven with the stock mufflers for 6 months now and I have gotten used to it. The GT500 mufflers start to make noise at around 2800 RPM. I normally shift at 3000 RPM for regular daily driving. I have to mentally adjust to the sound. It gives the impression that you're going faster than you really. I have just been too accustomed to the stock mufflers.
I actually thinks its plenty loud for me. I was considering the Borla Touring for its subdued sound. I read that the GT500s were at about the same sound level, So i opted for the GT500s for the price.
One thing i noticed is that I may have positioned the exhaust tips too far into the car to the point where it's like it's hiding. I may have to go back to the lift at some point if it starts to really bother me.
Anyone else have this impression of the mufflers being too short? I know i can adjust it a little bit by extending where the pipes are clamped. But this was my first time installing mufflers and I think I may have fitted the pipes too much forward.

The rubber holders where the mufflers are attached to was kinda tricky. I just had to man handle it in the end. I also had to loosen the pipe forward of the mufflers so that I could have some room to move the muffler around. But I don't think it is necessary. I just got frustrated. It just takes certain angles to be able to move muffler in and out of there. I'm not really a mechanic god. But now that I have the experience, any muffler work in the future should be cake. It can be done in less than an hour with good hands I guess.
Oh and all you need is a 13mm socket to remove the clamps for the muffler. Before I got the mufflers I thought I would have to use the clamps on the factory mufflers, but the GT500's has it's own clamps welded on it.
I got my GT500's the other day and it took me literally 30 minutes to swap them out with the stock mufflers. I did it on jack stands and the 30 minutes was from when I started jacking up the car till I lowered it back down. It is very easy to do. I am so pleased with the sound it is better than I hoped for. I've always had built fox body stangs and always had the flow master 40's on them and was gonna put those on this car. But I knew they would never sound like a fox body cause the mufflers being on the end. Bottom line I love my GT 500's and got a great deal shipped from eBay

Newb question... Where did you put the floor jack to lift the back of the car up? On the pumpkin? And the jack stands under the axle?
Have a good one
