Exhaust Weight Savings
Exhaust Weight Savings
I have read tons of posts regarding exhaust systems, but I don't remember seeing how much weight the aftermarket system saved versus the stock system. I was impressed with stainless works cat back:
This lifetime guaranteed SS system saves 41 lbs. over the stock exhaust system.
41 pounds IMO is pretty solid. Does anyone have any info on the weight savings of other systems? I saw Corsa but I believe I read theirs is around 18 lbs lighter. I am primarily looking for a cat back (with x-pipe) that is solid in the weight savings category and won't wake up the neighbors. All I plan on doing is intake, cat back exhaust and dyno tune.

I am a StainlessWorks dealer (sorry, just never have enough time to get stuff on the website, but I sell for less than retail....
) I really can't buy 41 pounds unless they are talking about the entire system, no way on a cat-back. I lost just over 20 with the system I have on my car (another brand, I have a lot of options) and that's including swapping the H for an X-pipe, all the tubing is thinner than the Ford stuff (also 304 vs. OEM's 409 stainless), losing the resonators, and the lighter mufflers. I don't have the smallest mufflers so are a few more pound there, but not another 21.

i put Flowmaster Hushpowers and a Magnaflow x-pipe on
holding each muffler on a bathroom scale, the Flowmasters were ~8 lbs. lighter (21 vs 13). Flowmaster claims 18 total
i didn't weigh the X or stock H-pipe but they seemed very close in weight to each other

For what it's worth... I've got StainlessWorks at good prices. If you visit my website, please make sure you click on each item and read the full description to get accurate pricing.....
The only way I'd really believe 41 pound difference is if you compare a fully stock system to a full aftermarket system with an off-road pipe. Simply taking the cats out would probably give you close to 20 lbs on it's own. Save about 10 pounds per muffler (reasonable) and I could see 40. But then you're driving around with a louder car that's probably not legal in your area and may stink a bit.
I've had my fair share of off-road pipes on my mustangs and I've never had issues with them, but most recent cars I've kept catted pipes on.
