Question Exhaust Debate (GT500 vs Borla)

I have been listening to videos over and over and have come down to 2 choices. I love a nice steady rumble at idle and cruising where I can actually hear the engine but when I get on it I really enjoy a deep growl. No tinny rattling sound like some exhausts but a nice loud growl that can be heard. I enjoy a loud car but not an obnoxious loud noise that sounds nothing like an engine revving. I like a classic muscle car sound from idle to WOT.

My choices that I've been going with are the GT500 mufflers with a Lethal Catless H-Pipe or the Borla S-Type Axle Back. From you guys with the GT500 mufflers do you think a Catless H-Pipe is really needed to achieve what I want? What you guys think?

Personally I'm leaning on the GT500 mufflers option but I've yet to hear it in person. (Youtube videos just don't do exhaust justice) Everyone at my local mustang club has roush axle backs which sounds great, just not the sound I'm looking for.

I like mine very much. I have just the GT500 mufflers on the stock system. If you want loud, the GT500 will not be there. My '07 GT had straight pipes...got old after a while. You do not get a classic sound from a new car....at least not like my past '66s have had. The GT500 is mellow and wakes up when punched. I get tons of compliments from everyone from Mustang club members to the neighbors. Come on up to Panama City and we will take a drive in mine......

I didn't want too loud just a nice V8 sound that I can just barely hear in the car as it is. The stockers just are so bad when sitting at idle with the windows up or down for my taste. I can hear the sound I want in the car right now its just way too quiet. I dont want to change the sound too much like what magnaflow pipes or roush pipes do, just make what is there louder. I really do think that the GT500 mufflers with a good h-pipe will give me exactly what I'm looking for.

Hmm, Ill be in Deltona near Orlando next week.....might take you up on that offer .

I can actually use the sync phone with the windows down and normal driving in traffic. My neighbor slobbers all over himself when I get on it past his place. Of course, that is a hard 1/2 mile run he hears it for....lol. With the windows up, you hear them but very subtle until hard accel. When I hear a stock setup, I then think...wow, I do have some volume there.... And yes, if you can come up...let me know, being retired, I have free time.

Lol i hear ya. Well I think that I've made my mind up with getting the GT500 mufflers. I'll definitely let you know if I'm in the area. Thanks for the insight.

Agree. I have the GT500s and although they could be a tiny bit louder when I'm just cruising with the windows up, they sound pretty darn good and never obnoxious 90% of the time. The most I would do is remove the after the H-pipe for more volume.

Sounds good. The GT500 mufflers vids on youtube sound like exactly like the tone Im looking for just a little quieter then what I want. I wonder if deleting the resonators and keeping the stock h-pipe will bring the volume up a little.

Talking

I still keep getting pulled around when I listen to different exhaust clips. These three youtube clips are the ones I like. What you guys say?? All have a sound that is what I'm looking for just with different higher throttle tone. I really do like the first clips tone all around. The Borla would be done FAR from now (pretty pricey). The GT500 mufflers do sound great with an aftermarket H-pipe. This decision is so annoying.

Generic X-Pipe w/ Custom Muffler Deletes

Pros: Interesting Growl at Idle Rev, Great Tone
Cons: Dont know if its too loud

Borla Catback System

Pros: Great Sound throughout all RPMs
Cons: Price, Sound a little Muffled

Heartthrob H-Pipe w/ GT500 Mufflers

Pros: Great Sound at idle with revs, Great Volume
Cons: A little quiet then I thought at high revs, tone changes a little (Could be the youtube video)

I have never heard a Borla exhaust that I didn't like but I have also never heard one that I felt was worth the premium price either...

I'd be careful of the Heartthrob, a fellow member has posted up fitment issues with the mid pipes.

You just have to stop listening and buy...lol

As far as removing the resonators...I was all ready to and I read a few posts that people removed them and lost the rumble/burbbling when slowing. I decided not to remove mine as the loudness seems not to change much. Still wanting to install some electric cutouts....but hard to justify the price for something that is so much a pure toy to play with...lol

I know right. I really need to just go do it and stop dwelling on it.

Borla s-type catback sounds better in person than that video. My rev video in signature isn't a 100% accurate portrayal of the sound although I think its pretty close.

I picked up the stype catback for $1250 and free shipping. Its really not THAT much more than other catback systems out there. I highly suggest it.

I'll be making a drive by video soon as well. I'll post the link here later.

I have the GT500 axlebacks with no resonators and I love the sound. 50 state legal although that may be on the GT500 and not the 5.0 with the H-Pipe. If I had gone with aftermarket exhaust it would have been the Borla Touring. Borla makes quality stuff. From what I have heard the Borla touring and GT500's sound very similar. I plan on adding a catless H-Pipe in the future and that will make the GT500 exaust louder but hopefully not too loud which I was worried would happen with an aftermarket exhaust.

Before I got my Roush's I almost went with the Borla S-Type. Have you seen this video? This really has some good drive by's and launches. If I get tired of mine, this is what I would go with.

I had the same debate except with Borla and SLP Loudmouths. I got the SLP Loudmouths and I freaking love them. They have a very very nice startup tone. Really mean. The idle is nice and there is hardle a drone at all. Mainly in 5th gear at about 3000 RPM. People will stare when on WOT. I've seen it first hand. You won't be let down at all if you get these. It's the best bang for your buck I'd say

There a straight pipe with built in resonator. Very easy installation
