Only the 2013 and 2014 had the select shift transmission. The prior ones did not. It makes a huge difference driving on the twisties or in hilly terrain. To me, that makes it a different automatic transmission than the 2012 and earlier model years.
But I understand the base gearbox is the same 6R as used in many other Ford models.

The Ford 6R80 automatic has been in use since 2009 in the Ford F-150, Explorer & Expedition, as well as the Lincoln Navigator. It is being used in Australian models such as the Territory and Ranger (since 2011). It has been used in the Mustang since the 2011 model year. 2013 saw the addition of select-shift, but it is still the same transmission internally. It is a very stout transmission that can withstand a lot of power.
