clutch questions

I think my clutch is going out soon, I'm getting alot of burnt clutch smell while im out driving around. I have 20k miles on the car right now, but i did race it a good 20-25 times at the local 1/4 track in St. Louis.

So my question is, how much does it usually cost to replace the clutch and what clutch kits would you guys recommend. I'm currently still mostly stock(just CAI, tune and cat back exhuast), but i do have plans to continue to upgrade the car up to and including a S/C(in about 2-3 years).

At this time i would like to mostly keep the nice soft easy going stock clutch feel and dont really like the feel of super stiff clutches.

With the hydraulic clutch even a pretty stout clutch won't raise pedal pressure that much.

Even with 20-25 passes at the strip the stock clutch should last longer than 20K though.

As to clutches, a SPEC stage 2 will probably be more than enough for what you are talking about doing and will be plenty easy to live with and are reasonably priced.

Yeah i dropped my car off today for a Paxton s/c install, with that I'm replacing my clutch with a spec2+ kit and aluminum flywheel, also upgrading the clutch lines as well. If you do the install yourself a crank sensor relearn will have to be performed or your car will not run right. If you have pro installing they should know this has to be done. My clutch kit costs $419.00 parts only! My 6 bolt modular aluminum flywheel is $380.00

If you're really concerned about pedal effort take a look at the McLeod RST/RXT. My friend just put an RXT in his Terminator and I couldn't believe how much lighter the pedal effort was vs. the old stock clutch. Downside on them of course is price, they are costly.

I too have the rxt. Much lighter than stock and smooth as can be, I love it.

I had to do it on my Shelby. The dealership hooks up a computer to your car and revs up your engine, after doing this a few times it will sync the sensor to the new flywheel. When you put on a new flywheel the sensor will miss-read it and show up as a random miss-fire code that will light up your CEL and Wrench light. A local dealership did the relearn for free.
