It alters the idle to make it rougher, sounding like the car has cams. This is possible due to the variable cam timing. But from others experience, it is hit or miss on drivability. Some peoples' tunes suffered from stalling and surging. To most, it isn't worth the potential headaches. It doesn't change the fact that it was his request on his order form, and they didn't bother to let him know what he wanted wasn't possible.

It is very similar to his other proposed scenario - Brembo Package owner orders some 17s and snow tires for winter, not knowing that they won't fit over is brakes. Instead of calling the customer, AM just sends him some 18s and wider tires because they cost the same, without telling the customer. Sure, they saved him the "headache" of his original order not working, but again, pick up the **** phone and tell the customer before you change their order!

It's something like putting a cobra badge on a V6 or GT, faking the funk.

I call BAMA and the guy tells me they won't write that ghost cam tune unless I have the cats deleted. WOW! Thanks for telling me this AFTER you build and send my tune! The one specific thing I wanted from the tuner they WON'T do without the cats removed or a cat delete kit. WTF! I would have waited on the tuner purchase and bought the exhaust set up I want first if I knew that. Great (NOT) customer service! A heads up from BAMA that I would not get what I really wanted before putting this all together and sending it to me would have greatly decreased my disappointment and probably would have caused me to spend money on something else from their shop instead. Well not anymore, you don't take care of the customer, the customer finds an new vendor to purchase from.

Sorry just a bit fired up after that waste of time and money.
Todd72,

I do agree with you that the Bama Team should have given you a call informing you of the necessary requirements to run a Ghost Cam tune. By no means, should they have sent the other tunes without clarification in at least an email. I'm sure they were thinking you wanted more than just the Ghost cam tune, so they sent the rest and fulfilled your order.

I'm sorry for this miscommunication prior to sending the tunes/tuner. If you're only interested in the tunes/tuner for the ghost cam tune, than I'd be more than happy to setup a return for a full refund! As we do care about our customers and don't want them stuck with something they weren't asking for!

To prevent this issue in the future, I'll check to see who fulfilled your order and make sure they're aware to contact any customer that has conflicting notes in their tunes request. As this has always been our standard policy. There's no reason to not keep it active!

Please send me your First/Last name and shipping address via PM and I'll get this taken care of ASAP. Also, if there's anything else I can assist you with, don't hesitate to let me know.

Or did you forget to mention you are already running cat deletes? We offer free tune upgrades so we can add that aspect to the tune later, or maybe you'd like to purchase an O/R X-pipe at this time too?" That's not very hard to do. And obviously AM and Bama just aren't getting it.

I've stayed quiet on these AM threads but I would never purchase anything from AM. Nothing has changed. I remember when they first started advertising in the big Mustang magazines. I was in high school and was looking for a set of the black housing headlights for my '00 V6. My dad, who was active LEO at the time, wouldn't let me order the clear corner ones because they were "illegal." He called up AM, since they were the only ones with a website at the time, and the guy on the phone was a complete a$$ to him. All he asked was if the lights were DOT compliant and whoever the CS rep was told him "it doesn't matter, no one is going to stop you with these lights, so did you want them or not." My dad hung up on him. Obviously that person may not even work at AM anymore since that was like 6-7 years ago, but it soured my view of AM. And these endless threads continue to push me to other sources, like Late Model Resto. That's just my unrelated $.02, but to the OP, I get it.
laserred38,

Wow, I want to apologize for the experience your farther had a few years back. I don't know why anyone here would talk to a customer like that. That's completely unacceptable. I just wish I could find out who he talked to, or if this person even still works here.

It's a shame this was your first impression of AM. I know it's always hard to shake first impressions and you definitely had a rough one. If you were to give us another chance, I'm sure you wouldn't experience anything nearly the same!

Also, please feel free to ask me any questions, concerns, or bring suggestions to me via PM. I'm here to help our forums customers anyway I can!

A ghost cam tune utilizes the variable camshaft timing on the 2011-2014 5.0's. Basically, what is does is replicate the behaviors of radical Naturally Aspirated camshafts by increase valve overlap at idle, which causes a very lopey idle.

Any ghost cam doesn't improve power at all. It's only meant to be pleasing to the ear. As soon as one gets out of idle, the tune moves into the regular Race tune parameters.

Let me know if you have more questions about this ghost cam tune!

3.7,

How recent was your last revision? Also, is your v6 Mustang an automatic? I believe there was some type of adjustment made to these 3.7 v6 tunes, which covered some random issues a few of our customers were having. I'm wondering if your Mustang is the same.

Could you send me your info? First/Last name and shipping address, please. I'd like to get it over to one of our best Bama Specialists for him to take a look!

Guys,
I dont have any skin in this game but with all the negativity around here lately, one has to at least consider the possibility that a BRAND NEW member who joins up just to bash a vendor may be a troll.

Sorry to be so cynical but it is typical of the internets.

Bro, You can't have a ghost cam tune with cats. The ghost cam tune will destroy them. If Bama gave you the ghost cam tune and destroyed your cats, you would be on here all pissed off and raising holly hell. Bro, do your research and homework first and you would know ghost cam tune has too have no cats. Besides the fact the ghost cam tune is silly and sounds like garbage , go take your cats off and then you can get your ghost cam tune.

The ghost cam tunes are a fake poser sound like the old school muscle cars from the 60's and 70's big cammed and carburetors, however they fail too compare and sound silly with our modern day muscle cars.

You're right, you don't have a skin in the game and although my member name might be new, I'm not. I've been a member before with other cars. Didn't have a Mustang for about 3 years and had to set up a new profile because I don't recall the password and don't have the email I used to use. I've also been building Mustangs for about 25 years. This is my first 5.0 4v but I've had several 5.0 2v's and a couple 4.6 3v's. I am/was a Ford master tech as well on top of being a business owner.......excuse me if I wasn't aware the ghost cam tune would affect the cats. I would have guessed the "custom tuner" could have explained that to me when I requested it. That's where this thread started.

This post was all about customer service. Let's break that down. I asked for something and was delivered something else without an explanation.....so trolling I am not. I've purchased from AM in the past but never a tune. Never had a problem before. I didn't even complain about the fact my order was delayed due to Mother Nature hitting the east coast hard. Not their fault. I was disappointed in the delivery of a substitute instead of what I asked for, without explanation. End of thread for me guys. Sorry I even brought up a customer service issue.

I think its hilarious whenever an argument starts on the forums the defendant always says

"Well, I have x years building mustangs"

AM made a mistake, they probably process 50 orders a day, who knows.

Well , I'm not a master Ford tech and in fact the only master I am is a master baiter but I knew one can't have a ghost cam tune unless your cats are gone. Don't people do any research about mods or tunes before getting these things. I mean you have these mustang forums like ours, tons of super knowledgeable people on here and yet people just order mods and have no clue on what they are ordering or if any damage can occur.

I just don't get it. If dude wants ghost cam tune go order a off road pipe and be done with it. Its really not a big deal.

funny thing I had a cammed GTP.... it had a high flow cat.
I had a cammed GTO.. it had cats.
I had a cammed trans am. it had cats.

The GTO eventually was catless, but there was no power change, nor was there a change in driveability.

Todd72,

One of my guys in Bama gave you a call on the 25th and left a message. From last I've heard, he still hasn't heard back from you. If you could give him a call back ASAP, he'll setup the full refund and email you a return shipping label for the tuner.

Hit me up if you don't have the VM and need his contact number!

Well there's a big difference between actual high lift cams and a tune that makes your car sound like it has them. But I'm sure you knew that.

It's not the lift, it's the overlap that can potentially harm cats because of the unburned fuel.

not really. if you think about it the "cam tune" just introduces overlap that is able to be tuned around/out that would be present on a car without the ability to work around that overlap like an LS2.
