Any difference between S-Type exhausts?
Any difference between S-Type exhausts?
This may require a vendor to notice this thread, but does anyone have an idea if there is ANY difference between the part # 11798 Borla S-Type for a 2012 GT500 v.s. the part # 11837 Borla S-Type for the 2011-2014 Mustang GT?
I picked up and just installed the GT500 axlebacks on my car and I'm just curious how they might differ.

From what I understand, absolutely nothing. It's a marketing thing. GT500 owners might pass up a borla targeted for the GT because they might not know its a direct fit, or don't want parts that are not exclusively made for the gt500. I could be wrong, but I bet that is why.
well yeah, they're on my car already :-P
I just thought it was curious there are two different part numbers.
They are sooooo much better than my GT500 Axlebacks I took off. Remarkable that they are just as quiet at idle with just a little more bass to the exhaust note. These channel Steve McQueen and his Mustang nicely.

So is the 11798 (2011-2012 GT500) a direct fit on a 2014 GT? Reason I'm asking is that the 11798 is $107 cheaper at Summit than the 11837 (2013-2014 GT). Both have 2.75" pipes and 4.5" tips.
I have a lead on S-type mufflers from the 140370 cat back system (the X-pipe and OTA pipes have been sold), but the Summit site says the mufflers from the 140370 system only have 4" tips. Can anyone confirm this? I think that 4.5" tips from the 11798 will look a lot better than 4.0" inch tips from the 140370 system.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks folks!

11798 has longer tips and is designed for the 11-12. It fits a 13 but the tips stick out a little far. The new version 11837? was made to correct the tip issue with the 13-14 mustangs. I've got some 11798's for sale if anyone wants them. $450 pm me.
Thanks for the info Mikey. I heard the exact same thing earlier today. Looks like I'm stuck spending the extra $$ for the 11837 on my 2014 since I am OCD when it comes to exhaust fitment and the 11798's sticking out that extra bit would drive me nuts.
Thanks again for the info though!

don't do it!
btw, update here since Borla just sent me my new S-Types.
1. The tips don't stick out anymore.
2. GT500 and 5.0 GT mufflers are indeed different. Not visually on the outside, but definitely so on the inside. They have a wildly different sound. The GT500 mufflers are more "gurgly" and have a deeper note. they kinda sound all out of sorts until a harder load is put on the car.
GT mufflers have the gurgle only at idle, and are very composed w/ a hard load on them.
Wifey immediately noticed that they sounded different, even though 90% of the sound was the same or similar.

The S-types for the GT500 are "made" for the GT500 inside as well as the out.
They sound very different, though the "core" sound is similar. The "made for GT" mufflers are literally engineered for the engine in the car, and thus the GT500 stingers on the GT while they sound good, don't sound as good as the GT mufflers on the GT.
