2013 Vented hoods are not the best for aftermarket Air Intakes
I have washed my vehicle in the past and had some issues with starting and dying while driving. Then having a hard time starting the vehicle...
here is a video of that issue.
My first thoughts were that during washing the vehicle i was getting the water into the intake, but as i found out, this is not the case. it rained a few times and i had to run to work and as i started the car it was idling weird, then it got better and i started driving and it died. i opened the hood and there was water in the intake box, so i wiped it dry and after few more tries i got it going.
My conclusion, the 2013 hood vents and aftermarket intakes for the 2011-13 arew not the best when it rains or washing the car, something needs to be done for the 13 hood vents.
The water goes into the vents and then it runs directly onto the open air filter, soaking the filter in water and puttin some water in the filter box. here are pictures for better understanding.
Here you can see the black spot on the filter is where it was actually dripping onto the filter, must have had some dirt in the vents. You can imagine if the rain is harder or you are washing the car good then you know all the vent water is pouring right into the filter in that area.

here is the filter removed and you can see the water inside the box and also there is some water inside the filter as well.

here is a picture with the hood slightly open you can see that the vents would be draining directly onto the open filter.

you cant really blame anyone here but these aftermarket open filters cannot be offered for the 2013 models with the vents on the hoods, because moisture gets into the filter and when you are running the engine after a rain or a car wash you are actually shooting water into the intake and into the engine, thus creating problems each time it rains or washing the car.
The only way these open air filters can be sold for the 2013+ models with hood vents is if there is some modification made, im working on just that to try to resolve this issue.
Im actually surprised there is no other people posting about this issue with the 13 models and aftermarket intake filters

When first saw the hood vents in the 13 GT model I thought it would be a problem, BUT I never saw anything posted about a water problem until now. I'm very surprised also no one else has posted about this with the same issues !!
That sucks because I was just going to order one from Steeda. Thanks for the heads up. Scott

This topic has definitely been brought up before. Some intake manufacturers have even tried to prove through posting videos that water is unable to seep down through the vents and into their (non-updated) aftermarket intakes. I can confirm that after a rain/wash I almost always find water drops (not always small, either) on the top lid of my stock airbox.

I recently watched a video about the 2010+ Saleen hood. It's the same scenario.
I would love to ask the designers: Is the minimal heat extraction really worth getting crucial engine components wet?
Haha seriously, we all know that those good vents are there mainly for looks.
