2013 Mustang GT Cold Air

Couldn't find info anywhere,
I notice when it rains there is water on top of my air box. So if I had an open element air filter, would it not drip on the filter, making it dirty/soggy. (I am obviously not worried about hydro locking) Also since the under side of the hood had that "shelf" for the vents, would that not interfere with where the intake seals to the hood.

Oh and, would the rubber that seals to the hood not eventually leave a mark in the hood liner.. I am picky about stuff like that, and would rather to just remove the seal if that was the case

I wasn't asking if they are oiled.....

After I wash my car, my air filter box is soaked, I dont want all the soap etc constantly getting my filter wet, oiled or not.

I always put a plastic bag over my air filter and fuse box and tape them before i wash my car or engine bay.

I dont think that the ruber linings would leave any noticable mark on the underside of your hood.

Phill - this does not help our friend with the 2013 when it rains, etc. He can't drive with a plastic bag.
Steve - I don't have an anwer, however, I did post a thread a few months ago where I asked questions about those hood vents and rain/water/etc. Perhaps there is an anwer on it, or you may add to that post, or you may ask some of the folks who posted there:

Your car is stock? If so you have a lid on the top of it preventing water from getting in. If it doesn't prevent the water from getting in it might not be on correctly.

Read the OP's bleeping questions and stop responding with unrelated solutions or suggestions! I apologize for being rash, but d a m n!

If you're airbox is covered in large amounts of water now, and U switch to an open intake with the filter element placement in the same exact spot then it's obvious you would have water on it. If you have an intake that has the filter element relocated then you would have to run your own test.

I'm a jet and diesel engine mechanic for the past ten years and the few oiled filters we have are sprayed with water on a weekly basis,....the water is runoff from washing. The water mainly beads off the filter element as it is difficult for water to soak through oil based lubricants.

I just installed an Airaid CAI on my 2013 GT..... I'm wondering the same thing as the OP. Maybe a vendor or manufacturer can be summoned.

If the filter element is in the same spot as the stock airbox like i already said, will be based on what intake u get so I cannot answer ur question on the location. Some are and some not.

Looks like Ill hold off for now... AEM has a closed box like stock, but doesn't look like it improves much over stock.

You could just wait and get the roush 575hp supercharger and use its closed airbox. Ordered it Tuesday. I have a 12 so iI don't need to worry about the water dropping on it so I plan to get the big air intake to swap out the roush box

I would hate havinga 13 as I hate the hood. Im a clean freak with my engine bay and with a 13 water and dirt get in through vents and make a mess. But the CAI on 13s Ive seen seal up against hood when closed. See pic PJR posted...it ha rubber seal on top, that seals against hood when closed. So id assume it wont get wet when it gets water in the vents
