Hey guys I don't want to hijack this thread but it makes more sense to ask here then start my own thread.

I'm looking to get a bit more sound out of my 2012 GT but I hate drone. Most of my driving is city and the traffic just loves to leave me right in that 2000RPM range that so many mufflers drone at. I have been looking at the Roush Axel backs but don't know much about them. Now I see people saying GT500 take offs without resonators.

I don't want the car too quiet (stock is too quiet) but don't want it overly loud either. On my 07 GT I had a custom setup (done by a local shop) with FRPP X-pipe and flowmaster Super 40's, loved that sound and there was no drone. Anyone have suggestions for me?

There are so many choices out there and many people on here will tell you that their setup is the best. Your best bet is to find someone locally and listen to theirs. There are bound to be some others in NJ that have a few of these same setups. There is also youtube, just make sure the video is done with a video camera and use headphones or good speakers to listen to the sound. Laptop speakers will not work. Thats my advice. Here is my video.

They arrive tomorrow. Send me a text when you have some time. I really, really liked my Dynomax. My issue was the fitment gave me fits, and they just did not sound right with the lope tune. I am done, man. I cannot do any more muffler swaps. At least I tried all of these mufflers and learned that my original choice was the best choice.

I installed Flowmaster Force II axle back. Excellent sound. Tried the American Thunder and the drone was unbearable at 2k rpm.

I will again say the GT500s are the way to go. As someone who has done no less than 8 muffler swaps on his car (including stockers twice and GT500s three times), the GT500s really do offer perfect OEM fitment, good tone, nice looking tips, and a great price. I just don't see the need to buy $800 mufflers.

That is true. I realllyyy want GT500 tips on my Roush AB. I don't like the rolled tips, makes them appear smaller

I just installed my Roush Axle-backs. Absuloutly love the sound. Only other mod is a Roush CAI. They are a little louder than I was expecting, but honestly, they arnt crazy loud like the Flowmaster Outlaws or anything. They have a great rumble and a disgusting crackle. Very minimal drone, Living in hawaii, there is alot of stop and go traffic, so I have plenty of experience with that. I would highly recomend them.

The resonators don't do much to quiet it down, they just attenuate the crackle the restrictive H Pipe puts in. I put the GT500s on first and liked how they sounded, but still didn't have the tone I was looking for. I had the 3" X pipe installed with the resonator delete at the same time and the combination is perfect. I can hear it when I step on the go pedal but no drone at cruise at all.

Save the money and get a custom muffler delete. Stay away from 19-2100 rpms and you will not deal with drone.

I just did a search when I bought mine....been a while for me.

They do sound good. Removing the resonators on mine increased the sound a bit less than the original tone change when going to the GT500's from stock. Noticeable....mainly under load.

I am the unique one it looks like. I have the Borla Stinger S-type axle backs and they sound great! It took me 3 months of listening to exhaust sound clips to decide.

It truely is a personal preference.

I tried Flowmaster Outlaws (too loud); then Flowmaster Hushpower (too quiet); and just installed a set of Roush mufflers and it's just right! No, in-cabin drone and sounds great! I guess I'm an odd-ball too! lol

I agree on the GT 500's easy to install paid about 250.00 sound great
no drone, sound good through the gears, but are suprisingly quiet cruising in sixth.
