Chips and Scratches
Chips and Scratches
Yesterday after washing my car I noticed some pretty nasty chips/scratches in my paint. It looks like some will buff out (I hope) because when I run my fingernail over them I don't notices any change in depth. Others have taken it down quite far and there are chips that appear to go all the way through the color and some have scratches leading to the chips. I am wondering if any of you GB owners have used anything with any success to clean these up yourself. I am thinking about getting some DrColorChip but don't know how it will look on the Grabber Blue color.
I used http://www.automotivetouchup.com/
Color match was perfect. I just needed a bottle of clear and the paint

Not a GB owner but I know what has given me success with my Vista Blue. I have always used Pinnacle XMT for polish/buffing (there is no better) with green pads (I believe country or county is the brand) start with the heavy swirl and scratch and then move to the light. Always do this when the paint is cool and in the shade, I can't stress that enough. You seem to have a good idea of how to do this so sorry if you already know this.
For the chips, since GB is a flat color I would get some touch up from paintscratch.com, and wipe down the area (after washing) with alcohol or paint prep and tape off the area in a square around the chip. Apply the paint in a dot. Next take a sharp flat tool (I use an exact o blade without the plastic holder) and hold at and angle and scrape across the paint glob to make it level with the surface, allow to dry and remove the tape and the chip should be next to impossible to see.

OK, this is going to sound stupid, and I’m sure I will get bashed, but give it a shot. You have nothing to lose. I got the idea from from Turtle Wax "Chip Stick" which I used to use on my VB '08. I have a chip on my GB '10 and it has worked great until I'm ready to do a full on repair.
The basic idea is you use a crayon to color in the chip. The wax from the crayon fills in the area left by the chip. My daughter wasn't happy with me, but I took her crayons and melted them down using a soup can in a pan of boiling water. I mixed and matched colors until I got GB. I poured the hot mixture into a mold (used for xmas candy, I told you this sounds stupid). I can now color in the chip and you cannot see it unless you know exactly where to look and even then you really have to look. The wax sticks in the groove of the chip and rubs off even with the surface. After I color in the chip I very gently wipe over it using quick detailer to remove the wax from the surrounding area.
You have to reapply every time you wash but it only takes a few seconds. I swear that if someone would market this in all factory colors they would make a mint.
Once I get a couple more chips I will have them all professionally repaired but one chip does not warrant the repair cost in my mind for a daily driver. In the interim this is a great, and basically free, fix.

I made the dealer include a tube of touch up paint when I bought my GB because tiny chips & scratches are part of life and the color is so extraordinary. It's worked great - unless you know exactly where to look, you could never find the 2 places I've applied it. It's worth getting it from Ford.
OPI's "Ogre-the-Top-Blue" nail polish is also an exact color match but I would NEVER use it on my baby. However, it is fun to whip it out of my purse and pretend I would just to see the look of horror on my guy friends' faces.
