4 Step Detail (w/ photo's)

Pretty happy with the results; sorry for the crap pictures - it was cloudy outside and I used my iPhone 4. Did the hood, front bumper, and front fenders in about 3 hours or so. I'll do the rest tomorrow in the morning and go out and take some pictures when it's sunny
  1. Started off with a car wash at the local hand wash (live in an apartment! better than nothing I guess...)
  2. Next, I moved onto Pinnacle Ultra Poly Clay w/ Pinnacle Clay Lubricant
  3. Next step - Meguiar's Ultimate Polish (this stuff is hard as crap to get off, won't be using this product again! EDIT: easy to get off when the car is cool, do not apply when body panes are a bit warm! DOH!)
  4. And lastly, applied a coat of wax with Meguair's Ultimate Paste Wax

Looks good! Did you do this all by hand or did you polish via machine?

Never tried the Meg's polish you used, but their M105/M205 are fantastic to use.

Thanks. Did it by hand. The polish, directly after applying, and I mean directly, was hard as hell to get off. Maybe I got a bad mix?

Without using the same product you used, it's hard to say. I've had to use quick detailer spray on polish to remove it before. Try that when you finish the car.

polish and black cars doesn't mix well. I think it will leave a film behind on all colors but isn't always noticeable. Tip: take off the majority of the polish and then either wipe over car with damp chamois and dry, clean towel of your choice.
I have found that the pure carnuba waxes work best on the dark finishes wthout any streaking. Also if your having a real issue getting the polish off it's probaly because you started with way to much to begin.

So I made a newb mistake and put on the polish when the body panels of the car where not completely cool - this made the polish hard as ***** to get off. Anyhow, I went back this morning to continue working on the car and the polish is very easy to get off when the car is cool...

Ahh, there's your problem. Cool paint in the shade makes everything easier. Pick up a small IR thermometer at Harbor Freight and shoot temps before you start, you'll save yourself a ton of time and cussing.
