I think this is a bad move for him, he's basically gonna be #3 driver at Gibbs, behind both Hamlin and Busch.

Sometimes you need to move on and try something new. We dont know what the mood is like within the 17 team or with Matt and Roush.

Its like my situation now. I like my boss and am successful where I am, but feel like there are new challenges and more opportunity for me elsewhere.

Which might be a great thing for Matt. Jarrett got a nice fat payday when he left RYR. Can't fault a man for that.

Did he? I was under the impression that he got nothing because he wanted to leave before his contract was up.

I remember a figure of $40 Million tossed around, if memory serves.

From jayski.com . . .

UPDATE: Sources have confirmed to PitPass.net that Michael Andretti has purchased the engine program from Penske Racing and will field at least one full time Dodge in the Cup series in 2013 and beyond. No word on who the driver is, but with Matt Kenseth leaving Roush at the end of the season, the 2003 Cup series champ did confirm to the Journal Sentinel on Wednesday that he will drive for "a new cup team" in 2013 and beyond. One option on the table is for Andretti to base his team out of the old Evernham Motorsports shop at the Statesville Regional Airport in Statesville, N.C. Also hearing from this unnamed source that this new deal with Dodge is also with Richard Petty Motorsports -- currently a Ford team paired with Roush Fenway Racing, but has a long history with Dodge. (this is why we didn't get the announcement of Petty to Dodge in Michigan a few weeks ago, they were trying to get Kenseth). Hearing that an offical announcement could come as early as next weekend.(PitPass.net)(6-28-2012)

With the success of RPM/Ford this season I am surprised they would move back to Dodge.

With Penske gone, Petty can be #1 Dodge team again.

I'm pretty sure Ambrose will leave them as soon as his contract is up.

Hope not, and I was suprised how Jarrett ended. Jarretts dad left when he was still doing good, and made a reference to it on a show once on speed. DJ really f'ed up imo going to waltrip. He went from stats in '05 of a win and 4 top 5's, 7 top 10s and an average finish of 18th and his final year at yates with 1 top 5 and 4 top 10s and an average finish of 20th to zero top fives or tens both years at waltrip racing and average finish of 32. Leaving a top caliber team to a start up in todays field, crazy. Its working out good for Bush sofar .

I'm sure DJ was just securing his retirement.

Jack Roush surprised by Matt Kenseth's decision to leave his NASCAR Sprint Cup team

Jack Roush says he was surprised by Matt Kenseth's decision to leave his NASCAR Sprint Cup outfit at the end of the year.
Although Kenseth has yet to reveal where his future lies in 2013 and beyond, the current Cup points leader has already confirmed he has a deal in place, and is tipped to be heading for Toyota squad Joe Gibbs Racing.
Speaking at Kentucky Speedway on Friday, Roush admitted he was surprised when he learned Kenseth would not be driving for him anymore but he remains confident of a solid future with existing drivers Greg Biffle and Carl Edwards, plus Kenseth's replacement Ricky Stenhouse Jr and team protege Trevor Bayne.
"I will say that I was as surprised as most of you must have been when I learned that he would not be signing with us to go forward," said Roush of Kenseth. "It was a surprise and I had no idea that we were at that point.
"I won't comment on the negotiations, on any negotiations that might have occurred, because we have an agreement to not talk about that.
"His leaving the team creates a window, a hole if you like, that we have very capable, able, ready, enthusiastic, motivated and ambitious drivers [to fill]."
Roush believes he could have prevented Kenseth from looking elsewhere had he not been more focused on the technical side of his organisation.
"If I had been as vigilant and diligent and interested in that side of the business as I am on finding why a fuel pump broke or why a connection rod bearing failed or how we could get the next pound of downforce... if I had been taking care of the business side of the business as hard as I tried to take care of the technical side I might have been able to stop that," he said.
Roush said his team is putting together sponsors for Stenhouse's #17 car for next year, while he plans to have 2011 Daytona 500 winner Bayne at the wheel of a full-time Nationwide Series entry.

Sounds like Dale Jarrett all over again . . . . for good or bad. On the flip side I am glad Brad K. will be under Ford banner next year. I like that kid.

I'm glad AJ Allmendinger will be driving a Ford, once again, next year. He's one of my favorite drivers.

I loved him in CART. And I am glad to see him back in a Ford too.

To Jack Roush, anything other than Jack Roush is The Dark Side.

That said, my JGR friend is pretty adamant that they are preparing to bring Matt on board next year.

Cool

Maybe Matt is thinking about the future motorsport career of his son Ross. Roush has enough up and coming young drivers. He most likely will not take on any young drivers in the next few years. Could be Matt has a deal for Ross to join him in the future at his next team and replace him eventually when he decides to retire.

Talking to my JGR friend again today. He's 100% certain that Matt is taking over the HD car. JGR is trying to put together sponsorship for a 4th car for Joey Logano.
