F1: Indianapolis Giving Up on Formula One
This is sad news, at least to me. I know Indy wasn't the best place for F1 in the USA, but I enjoyed the 6x I attended the F1 event.

I can't say I'm surprised. Between last year's joke of a race that managed to finally make the general American public turn its back on F1 and Bernie's constantly increasing greed, Indianapolis is simply no longer a profitable venue for F1. The entire FIA empire is looking for new locations and, more than anyone else, so is its crown jewel, the Formula One Championship.
If you want a good analogy, think of the NFL games played in Europe: they attract mostly fans of the show, not necessarily of the game. It's fun to watch a game, but when you only have contact with the sport once a year, it's impossible to keep a raised level of interest.

Yeah, that stuff last year was a complete joke. What were they thinking, if it was me, knowing all the losses that were because of that race, they would have been sued, and there wouldnt have been one this year.

Yes, it sucks. There were those of us that liked to go. I went to every one there also and had a great time. Except for the race that wasn't. What a farce that was. But, I went back the next year beacuse I love F1. Oh well, there's always Speed channel! Indy just sent me an email to apply for tickets to the MotoGP race they'll have next year.
"MotoGP COMING TO IMS IN 2008 FOR RED BULL INDIANAPOLIS GPMotorcycle racing will return to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the first time in nearly a century with the Red Bull Indianpolis GP on Sunday, Sept. 14, 2008 for MotoGP, the world's premier motorcycle road racing series.Officials from IMS and Dorna Sports, the commercial rights holder for the MotoGP, have reached a multi-year agreement to stage motorcycle racing at the Speedway for the first time since an event on the 2.5-mile oval on Aug. 14, 1909, the year the facility opened.

Thats good, I like MotoGP better than F1 anyway. That sports just too expensive and non competitive to be very exciting, outside of a car engineer's standpoint looking at the pure performance of the cars. Moto GP is rapidly growing in popularity in the states.

Imagine what a wonderful time it would be for IRL and Champ Car to come together as one series.
Imagine if that series raced at tracks like Indy(oval), Mid-Ohio, Watkins Glen, Road America, Laguna Seca, Road Atlanta, Sears Point, The "Hat Trick" in Canada, Mexico City, as well as some ovals like Michigan, Milwaukee.
Imagine F1 then trying to come into the USA with such massive demands to only be met with the unified single STRONG open wheel racing series in North America.
Now that would be great . . . . .if only.

The big problem with the Glen is that there's a lot of armco around the track, which isn't too safe with open wheel cars. It would take a lot of money to bring the track up to FIA specs.

Just to nail the lid on the F1 coffin in the USA. The only American driver has been sacked. I can only hope that one of the other teams will pick him up.
