DONE DEAL? Edwards says the only contract he's signed was his last one with Jack Roush three years ago. Whether there's a current contract or not, the latest scuttlebutt has Edwards driving the #20 Home Depot Toyota for Joe Gibbs Racing in 2012 for a staggering amount of money -- $8 million as a base, plus a $10 million signing bonus.(FoxSports)(7-31-2011)

I think he is as good as gone and I'm not bothered by it. It would be different if he'd already won a Championship. Although I'm not sure who would 'step up' and be the prominent driver FMC wants and needs. Carl is clearly one of the best marketable drivers in the field.

Agreed .. he's very marketable and someone FORD should hold on to, just to maintain a marquee name for the brand.
Would suck to see him go!

So ... who should be Edwards' replacement at #99 team? Ricky Stenhouse Jr or Trevor Bayne?
Or maybe Clint Bowyer, he's a free agent after this season. Although he wants to stay with a #33 team at Richard Childress Racing, they don't have a sponsor for the next season.

Sources: Carl Edwards to stay at RFR

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Carl Edwards has decided the best chance for him to win a Sprint Cup championship is to stay put.
The current series points leader has agreed to a new multiyear deal with Roush Fenway Racing, declining an offer to move to Joe Gibbs Racing in 2012, sources told ESPN.com.
An official announcement is expected later Thursday.

Some details about Edwards new contract: Roush Fenway Racing owner Jack Roush offered details today on Ford Motor Company's contribution to the contract package agreed to Thursday by #99-Carl Edwards. "Ford stepped forward and offered Carl an incentive program," said Roush to Sirius XM NASCAR Radio's Sirius Speedway with Dave Moody. "They also offered up a Ford stock program that will come to fruition after the third year of his contract is complete." Roush admitted that there is "still some work to do" on sponsorship for 2012; both for Edwards and other members of the Roush Fenway Racing stable. "The 3M package for Greg Biffle is done and discussions are ongoing for Matt Kenseth and David Ragan," he said. "We can see our way more than 50% through Carl's program, right now, but the day is past when you can rely on one sponsor to pay the full ticket for any driver. Sponsors like that are fewer and farther between than they were even a few years ago, but we will continue to work hard to put these various packages together."(Sirius Speedway)(8-5-2011)

Roush took a gamble on Edwards and won

In trying to convince Carl Edwards to stay in his racing family, Jack Roush put all his cards on the table. In Roush’s words, he “showed everything” to Edwards, from where Roush Fenway Racing has been to where the company is going.
It was a risky move for Roush, for had Edwards packed his bags and signed with Joe Gibbs Racing, the competition would have been armed with all his secrets, leaving Roush exposed for who knows how long. But it was a gamble Roush had to take.
