Analyzing Ford's decision to quit the NHRA-- and how it impacts J

I am surprised Ford actually continued to sponsor John Force Racing as long as they did. I know Ford worked with Force to develop an engine block for Top fuel and Funny Cars that would be more durable and could be sold through Ford Motorsports. To me, both Ford motorsports and John Force Racing accomplished their goals and now it is time to move on to do other things.
Now, I am thrilled to watch and listen to the Top Fuel cars and Funny Cars thunder down the strip. However, I do not really care that much who wins because I can not relate that much to the cars as being something that is remotely based on a street car. Pro Stock, forget it. The Pro Stock cars are so hideous looking that I can not stand to look at them.
We need a sanctioning body that should have the courage to scrap the current Pro Stock race car and only allow stock exterior bodies with 4 or 5 speed manual transmissions behind a current production V8 or V10 engine manufactured in the last 10 years. Don't need no Lenco trannys in Pro Stock !

Well, I guess if you put 500 people into stands that are only supposed to seat 400 then it would be more "packed" than a NASCAR event. A typical NHRA National Event will see around 20,000 people show up over the entire weekend. That's hardly comparable to the 150,000+ that show up for most Sprint Cup races.
If you really want to put this in perspective, the Dallas Auto Show had over 380,000 people show up with less than 15,000 going to see the NHRA race at the Texas Motorplex less than half an hour away.

Regardless of number comparisons, Nascar attendance is waaay off - tons of empty seats that used to be filled.
Whereas NHRA fans are still showing up to pack the stands at most events.

I ask is Ford doing away with the V8 engines? You can't put an ecoboost up against a hemi in the NHRA. You can't run an ecoboost in nascar either. I don't know. Here come the mid 70's again.

What?! Who stated FMC was (or the NHRA and NASCAR for that matter) replacing V8s with one of their EcoBoost engines? (However, that is the case in USCC next season. Michael Shank Racing will be using a Ecoboost 3.5 TT V6 to replace the 5.0 that was used in Rolex DP for so many seasons.)

The February 2014 issue of Hot Rod magazine mentions the return of Ford to grass roots drag racing. The article about Ford returning to its roots in drag racing starts on page 82 . A number of historic Ford drag race cars are shown.
I think Ford is on the right track by supporting the grass roots racers.

Yeah ya can, with enough boost anything is possible. In the 80's F1 was pushing turbo 4s right to 1000hp. That might be a far cry from what a modern top fuel V8 is producing but relative to their size those engines were producing crazy power.

I agree completely with Ford's strategy of race on Sunday sell on Monday. There is a solid connection between the race cars and what they sell on the show room floor with the CJ unlike a top fuel car or a nascar which are caricatures of the production vehicle.

I have been drag racing since 1970(43 years). Been a dues paying NHRA member since 1984(my wife and son too). We've owned many drag cars.Novas, Camaros,55 Chevy Pro-Mod,dragsters and so on. At the end of 2013 we sold it all.The fun is gone. The NHRA is simply interested in squeezing all the $ out of you they can. I ordered a 2014 Mustang GT that I will race in the street class. All you need is a helmet no lic., membership, chassis certs, etc. My NHRA credential renewal showed up in Feb. With great pleasure I threw it in the garbage. The NHRA is their own worst enemy. Frankly I think the real NHRA died with Wally Parks passing sad to say. Perhaps they will wake up but not sure. It also seems that as the baby boomers go so will go all racing. Young people don't care. If it cant be done with a phone app. not interested.
