I'm here.

Truly outstanding effort by Audi! I do feel pretty bad for McNish though, spinning out in the lead. He looked pretty dejected in his postrace interviews.

Ah so that's what happened. I missed it and wasn't sure what they were talking about. I could tell he was down.

yeah, he tried to go around one of the cars in the Porsche curves and cut it too tight, and spun out. I really would have like to see him, Capello, and Kristensen win another one.

He needs to learn to just stay the heck AWAY from red Ferrari's in corners at Le Mans!

"Car 56" for 2013 will be quite interesting!

http://www.topgear.com/uk/car-news/g...013-2012-06-08

It's called the GreenGT H2, and is a hydrogen-electric hybrid racer that will occupy ‘Garage 56' at the 2013 Le Mans endurace race; that experimental pit at the circuit - filled this year by Nissan's revolutionary DeltaWing racer - that is judged to be technologically innovative.

The GreenGT H2 boasts a hydrogen fuel cell that produces electricity to drive two electric motors which produce around 540bhp, sitting on a bespoke chassis built by the Welter Racing team; Le Mans veterans throughout the 90s. And veteran viewers of Top Gear will of course remember James May's film about the Honda Clarity, extolling the virtues of hydrogen cars as the future (it doesn't emit anything nasty).

GreenGT tells us earlier prototypes used lithium-ion batteries, but were found to be the "weak point". Hydrogen was then chosen, and a 100kW fuel cell was developed last year and tested, alongside a twin-motor powertrain that can power the 1,240kg chassis to an expected top speed of 186mph. By any measure, that's quick.

now that's a rear wing!

They need to educate the corner workers on how to safely deal with these incase of an accident. It took them a few minutes to work on the Toyota when Davidson crashed because of electrocution hazards. That few minutes could make a huge difference in a different crash situation.

Agreed. The corner workers at the crash site were not wearing the proper attire, rubber boots I believe, and/or didn't have proper training.

The announcers said that's a safety requirement. They have to wait for the guys trained with the special suits and rubber boots so no one gets shocked from the electrical hybrids in a crash. They mentioned the safety tech needs to get up to speed with the hybrid tech but its not there yet.

Now add in a tankful of highly compressed hydrogen gas to the mix.

I'm assuming that "pontoon" on the side is a hydrogen tank?
I hope it is extremely puncture-resistant!

I can see the driver's meeting.

good luck finding drivers for that thing if they think they're essentially on their own for a few minutes!

But I think this kind of shows a little of why I love LeMans so much. In every other series cars are so close to each other that if you take off the paint, you'd not know which is which. At LeMans there's so many different means of getting the objective done. Gas vs Diesel, Open vs Closed cockpit, etc. I love the experimental aspect of it all.

They said next year that all cars will be closed cockpits. I don't know if that applies to the "Garage 56" cars.

I'd like to see a closed-cockpit version of the Deltawing.
