Why Won't Ford Build Me A Car?

Why won’t Ford build me a car? I have $50K and they don’t seem to want it. I didn’t think any auto maker was in a position to lose a customer or in my case gain a new one.

I ordered a 2011 GT-500 on Feb 4 from a dealer very close to my home. Sales and service staff were all great. The sales manager sat down called his rep in front of me and was told he only had one allocation for a Shelby this year, but to go ahead and submit the order and maybe another dealer wouldn’t want their Shelby and my dealer could get a second allocation that way.

I just don’t get it, I have the money, I put in the order but yet Ford won’t build me a car?

I have called every dealer within driving distance most won’t even entertain the thought of selling me a car under MSRP others won’t come down more than $500. The dealer I ordered my car from gave me a fair price that nobody else will match. I don’t see why I shouldn’t be able to get a car from the dealer that treats me well?

I am beginning to become frustrated, I plan on waiting until July 1 and if I still don’t at least have a VIN I plan to drop the order and wait for the Camaro Z/28. I have friends at GM and I know I can get a Z/28 for a fair price from the dealer I have purchased my last 5 new cars from.

Why does Ford sell the GT-500 like this? To keep the price up by giving allocation to the dealers that wont come down from MSRP?

I have had poor luck with my last two new GM vehicles’ and planed on switching to Ford, but this gives me second thoughts.

If you can go to PA. to get your car then Jeff(05FordGT) may be able to help you out, he is a salesman at a dealer there.

If I was a Ford dealer, I wouldn't come off sticker a nickel on a new GT500, at least not til late in the model year if I still had one in stock. You are going to find some dealers charging a premium on them too, getting a few grand or more OVER sticker.

You are looking at a limited production vehicle. They only build so many per year and demand exceeds availability. Your problem is with your dealer not with Ford. I am sold out of my allocation of 2011 GT-500's. How is it Ford's fault if I promise to sell you a vehicle that I don't have the availability to get. Each dealer earns a certain number of these based on numerous factors including previous sales, csi scores, etc. If they over promised you that is their fault not Fords. When Playstation 4 or the next Wii comes out and Walmart advertises them at half price the day they go on sale and runs out of them at 12:01 am that is not Sony or Nintendos fault.

There are quite a few new 2010's still available at dealers around the country and they are getting discounted.

How is the car limeted, every dealer I have called (over 20) has at least 1 if not 3 unsold 2010 cars. Ford Made over 8,000 of these the first few years. Last year not as many and my guess would be because they new people would want the 11 over the 10.

Do you really think If Ford said they would build these the same at the GT that they would sell more than 10,000 of them a year?

I would love to see documentation to support your claim that demand exceeds producton, maybe in 2007 or 2008, but no way in 2010 and I am sure not in 2011.

Hey I guess If Ford doesn't need my money for this car or the next 20, no problem there are several other cars out there that perform as well or better. I can order any other GM or Chrysler car and have it without any drama.

I say its Ford's fault for not puting a customer before a dealer stock order just my opinion.

Thanks for the reply, it just helps push me back to the brands I have purchased for the last 20 years.

I still plan on giving my dealer until July. Its a great car, I just dont agree how its sold or how alot of the dealers treat the customers because of how its sold as low production.

I guess we shall see about the tail light comment. I know the Z/28 will have the LSA, the same engine that powers the Caddy CTS-V to a 12.4 second 1/4 mile. I had planned on buying the Camaro the last few years, but its just doesn't fit me as well as the Mustang.

If my wife would let me I would have a ZO6 in the drive by Monday, but she didn't like my comment about strapping the two boys to the roof.

I haven't shopped for a Viper or a Corvette ZR1 but I'm betting that they are also sold on a limited allocation basis. I wouldn't count on the Z/28 being built in large quantities and going for less than MSRP at most dealers. Has GM even committed to building the Z/28? I keep hearing they are, then they aren't. If they do build them, I foresee dealers asking for MSRP plus, for the first year.

I'm surprised that you've checked with 20 dealers and they all have 1-3 Shelby GT500's on their lot. In my travels I NEVER see one on a lot.

Last we've all seen there still isnt a Z/28, and isn't going to be one...so good luck with that. And if they do build it, you won't get any money off of that either. Go try and get a ZR-1 or a CTX-V for under sticker...Good luck. And no the 2010 GT500 didn't out sell the demand, first year for that. And I have not seen any GT500's sitting on lots in VA

Unfortunatly, you want it all. The best price you'll get on a GT500 is sticker and that's from Jeff (05fordgt).

GT500's can be purchased for much less than MSRP at the end of each model year.

Unless he wants a '10, it's not today...

You have not kept up on current events very well. A number of us have made deals for well under MSRP on 2011s.

Sorry, I'm basing my statements on my visits to the local Ford dealer. All the SE's he has have a $5,000.00 markup above sticker (at least).

CS/GT = 5k above sticker. GT500 coupe is 10k above sticker and ragtops are 15k+

I think this is part of Ford's global strategy of not dealing with cry babies. Ford is obviously going after the enthusiast market with the GT500 and doesn't need any negative stereotypes (Camaro-->mullets, Corvette-->goldchain, etc.). So it's not that Ford doesn't want your money per se, it's just part of their overall strategy maintain the appeal of its vehicles.

It definitely sounds like you need to expand your search area more. There is a thread somewhere around here "Dealers selling for MSRP or less" or something like that.
Sorry if I misposted, I meant Caroll Shelby GT. not Cali Special; they just want sticker for those...

Noted. Easy to confuse the two by the initials.

Hey bud, thanks for the kind words. I wish I could help but I already have my 1st one sold to WarpedSpazm, and I have an order for a 2nd one that I may/may not get.

Ford may give out a 2nd allocation to dealers who move their 1st cars very fast. Time will tell on this one and I have my fingers crossed.
