SVTPP vs FRPP SVT handling pack?
SVTPP vs FRPP SVT handling pack?
Hey guys,
I've been trolling the forums for several weeks now and have slowly but surely become convinced that I need to pull the trigger and get a GT500.
What I am currently debating myself about is the SVT performance package. I like the normal wider stripes better and it looks like I could get a Ford Racing SVT Handling pack for less than the cost of the SVT package so I was thinking, why not just get the GT500 without the SVTPP and install the FRPP handling pack instead? I was just wondering, as far as suspension goes, what's the difference between the SVT package and the aftermarket Ford Racing Handling Package?
Thanks,
Kaiser

I assume there is no difference in the package other than the SVTPP improves the handling not only because of the suspension upgrades but the wheels and tires as well. If you would match all the components of the package it would likely cost more in parts and labor than getting the SVTPP from Ford.
The FRPP Handling Pack is lower and, I would bet rides rougher. Remember the SVTPP also includes the lighter forged 19/20" wheels package with the new Goodyear F1 tires. And it also includes 3.73 gears.
Yeah typically the FRPP packages are much more aggressive in terms of spring rate and damper tuning, etc, too aggressive to be sold on production cars to the general public. Sway bars are probably slightly thicker as well. But the poster above is correct too, a big part of the SVT package is the tires, which if you had to buy them on your own would be very pricey.

It is the entire package which would cost a lot more if done after the car is built not just the tires. it makes more sense to get it from Ford and pay the difference than to pay twice for parts and labor.

No it doesn't. If anything it is extremely smooth, at least when compared to the '07 and '08 GT500s. I thought it would be but I was pleasantly surprised it wasn't.
There are three suspension options on the SVTPP GT500 once the engine is running: normal, traction control off, or advancedtrac on.
