A Legend Reborn: Shelby American Brings Back the Shelby GT350
#101
Not what I was wanting to see in a new GT 350, one won't be in my garage.
Was looking for "the less is more" theme that others have already posted about.
Thought SAI might have followed the idea of a club racer type product where performance options
took the lead over the bodywork.
I guess I was really hoping for a street legal version of the 302 R track machine.
Now the engine is interesting, but more interested to see what Saleen (SPV) does with it in their 2011 models.
(I do think E.C. has it right, more like the return of the 69-70 Shelbys than the original 65 model.)

To say disappointed would be an understatement. But I have kind of come to expect nothing less from the Shelby camp these days. Lets face it. I was at first excited for this reveal but I have realized that every new product they turn out is just an overpriced underwhelming marketing gimmick.
im pretty sure most of us here have been looking forward to a GT350 model since the 07 GT500 was unveiled, possibly since the S197 itself was revealed. And unfortunately this is what they give us. Shelby now seems to lend itself to being no different than every other body kit/tuner company out there. I dont think they listen to what the fans really want and I dont think they have any idea the kind of people that are interested in their products. Oh i think they will sell a couple of these. And Im sure a few dealers will stock one with an outrageous markup.
This is certainly not what I pictured. And certainly not what I wanted. And I hope the people at Shelby are reading these forums. Because lets face it. When this thread gets to 30 pages and the best response is "I like it but not for that price!" Thats not a good product.
Frankly if they want something exclusive they need to go less expensive and stick with the Ferrari allocation strategy. Demand minus one.
This is effectively an uglier, less powerful, and more expensive little brother of a car most of us adore.
Oh and Carroll. I know its a Shelby, anyone that knows mustangs knows its a Shelby. We do not need to be reminded of that fact at every angle inside and out.

I woke up this morning and looked at it again and I feel the same way, the performance is easy, Ford has it with the goodies but they tried to hard and threw things at it, I agree with all of Less is More! They did not need to go down that road.....

I like the grill, and the fixed rear bumper. I hated the sharp angle on the rear bumper, so I'm glad they smoothed that over. The engine looks good. Hood's pretty cool too. But the bumper styles themselves are definitely too much.

I don't like it, I think Saleen's front and rear bumper looks 10 times better than this! I wish they would've put more thought into the front, really poor execution.
It looks more like the 2003 Roush than the 65 GT350.
I think they took too long to do this tribute car, it should've been done with the 05-09 body rather than the 2010. Is bluntly clear in this picture that they came with this one year too late

The angle on the lights is not right, the rear is not right, the interior is the only thing that really works!

Seriously?! This is just a joke right?
I would love to try and find something positive to say about it, but unfortunately I've just eaten my breakfast, and I don't think I can get through all the pictures without barfing it back up.
That is HORRENDOUS. You would have to pay me $33k to do that to my GT!

Don't they have market studies before they release something as big as this? small consumer groups that are fans of true mustang history? I mean, I would've seen that, and I would've told them that they were totally off base with that design!
There's a poll here in TMS, 70+ that don't like it to only 20 some that like it and 20 some that are neither for or against. That should send a very strong message back to SAI, highly doubt is going to change anything.

I just threw up a little in my mouth...
I'm sorry but that's just ugly, that front is just blech! (Edit: and so is the rear, I don't like center exhaust), though I don't mind the rims that much, but that's about it.

Yes but desert it not included.
Last night I watched the full video presentation and at the end a person of interest said if anyone in the crowd was interested deposits would be accepted... right then and there. I found that to be a little odd.

I think the bottom line is that the car is to expensive for any working class person to buy. It's pushing 70k with taxes and options. Shelby would have been better off making it more affordable. BUT!!! they(Shelby) don't want it to be affordable, they want it to be rare, exotic, and valuable. I think the Shelby Mustangs have lost their way. They're about bragging rights, signitures, and dash plaques first.....performance second. But honetly....who would race this car????......It's a conversation piece.......I would love to see someone really take a car like this out and race it hard.....real hard.....It will never happen.
