GT500 worth it?
Hey everybody, i have a question for you. I currently have a 2011 gt. I have always wanted a gt500. However there is a 2010 gt500 near me that im considering getting. My question is the cost worth the performance gain? Has anybody driven these cars back to back and noticed a significant difference? Any input is welcome, thanks.

I've got a 2012 GT 500 and a 2011 GT. GT is a nice car with all the power in the upper RPM. GT 500 is a whole different car. Power comes on immediately and continues throughout the RPM. It's an amazing car to have. If the GT500 is in good shape and been taken car of I would trade up.

I dont feel going from a 2011 GT to 2010 GT500 is worth it from a fucntional stand point
Looks are a persoanl preference and could make it worth it
Resale on the Shelby will be better
The Shelby is rare the GT is not
Street cred is WAY WAY higher on the GT500.
If it were me I would not do it though. Not enough performance for the difference.
a 2013 GT500 is a whole different discussion though

Without you knowing this was a hilarious question to ask (some on this board know why).
Yes I have driven all Shelby Variants (and not just for 5 minutes either).
2007
2008KR
2010 coupe and convert
2011 coupe and convert both base and performance package
2013 coupe and convert, base, perf and track (track is coupe only)
The performance of a 2011 GT 5.0 with the FRPP power upgrade on the street is comprable (the feeling of speed is not due to less torque in the midrange) and in my personal GT I have gone door to door with 07-11 GT500's (and not with idiots at the wheel of the GT500).
On a road course a 5.0 GT is my choice all day and over a typical 20 minute session will simply run away from the supercharged car.
The GT500 is a good car. The OP asked peoples opinion, I have a vast amount of experience with both the 5.0 powered cars and the 5.4L and 5.8L cars and I feel that a 2010 is not "worth it" compared to a 2011+ GT 5.0.
I did go on to state that a 2013 is a totally different story.
If he had said he might pulley and tune the GT500 I would have a different answer. However he did not state that so I answered the question at face value

My plan is to upgrade with about $3-5000 in go faster parts. I just didnt feel comfortable doing that in the 5.0 without upgrading the motor to withstand 600-700 HP. The shelby to my understanding can withstand 700-750 HP as long as you dont rev above 6250 RPM.
Not to mention i love the styling and the prestige of the Shelby.
My thoughts overall are that the Shelby has a much easier powerplant to work with to make big power. I wont take it on a road course, but possibly to the strip on a rare ocassion. Mostly just for cruising and the ocassional right pedal fun!
