GT500- Saw, Ordered... Not

Over the past month I’ve been on the fence about buying a "new" 08 GT500 (Black, HID, Shaker 1000, & Ambient Lighting) or ordering a 2010 GT500 (Black w/Silver Stipes, HID, & Shaker 1000).

The 08 is/was available nearby and at a very good price. I’ve looked at it several times and I am very familiar with the model and available mods that I had planned to install, i.e., JLT CAI w/ SCT Bama Tuner, Roush 427R Cat Back, pulley, etc.

I am less familiar with the 2010, except for the countless hours research. Well, this week the decision was made easier. The 08 finally sold... to someone online in Connecticut. Buyer, If you’re a member on this site, congrats! I’m a believer of fate, so I guess that it wasn’t meant to be.

OK, focus now on the 2010. Having actually never seeing one in person, I ventured to a local dealership that had one: Kona Blue w/silver stripes (sold). When I first saw the car I was amazed . The car looked 1000 times better in person. Based on dealership research I knew that they were able to order one. Not really prepared to do so, the "rush" led me in that direction. OK, $1,000.00 down and it’ll be here sometime in March or April. MARCH or APRIL!?!?

The story ends. No. I did not order the car. Yes. I will be ordering one in the Spring... maybe at that time a 2011. No offense to the 07-09 GT500 owners, but I’m glade that I waited. To be continued...

I was going to say, March would have been at the end of the build out.

Hey bud, by then it definitely will be a 2011. If you haven't yet seen my "stickied" thread in general 2010 forums, the order banks open for the 2011s on the 23rd of November, with Job #1 of 2011 Mustangs (don't know if Shelbys will be same time or a few weeks later) on March 15th 2011. If you want your car by March, you better order it before the end of the year, so you get a jump on the line.

2011 order banks

If the order banks open on Nov 23, but the 2011 specs aren't disclosed until the LA Auto Show in Dec, what info would the order banks provide?

Thanks.

The order banks will open AND I should have the 2011 Ordering Guides, that show any new colors, options, packages, and information on the new powertrains!

Now that said, I DO NOT know if the GT500 order guides will be out the same day as the V6/GT guides. They may be released a few weeks later.

I've really been holding off judgement on the 2010 GT500s until I saw one in person. When I went down to pick up my new company car today, the dealer had a black (stripe delete) vert sitting in the showroom. While I still think the GT500 is a huge improvement over the '10 GTs, this one just didn't scream $54K to me. Though, the aluminum block will go a long way in the 2011s, I still like the '07-'09s exterior. The interior of the '10 wins, hands down...

Seeing one in person did definitely helped me make my decision about when I'll be placing my order...

I almost bought the 2007 when they first showed up and then I decided to wait and see where they took it, once I saw the 2010 then it was all over, to me they did just about everything right, so I bought one. I knew about the aluminum block change for 2011 and opted to stay with the iron block, having had aluminum block/heads on previous cars and the nightmare I went through, iron was just fine with me.. Just my opinion

Had a 32 valve Northstar GM engine, ended up with external head gasket coolant leaks and external oil leaks, basically that thing bled every fluid from all the wrong places. As my friend and mechanic coined it,"There are 8 grand worth of leaks", I unloaded it in an AS IS auction. Had heads warp on another this was a Ford motor on a hot summers day stuck in traffic, that was a riot. Hey not to say they don't improve over time, I just have a bad taste in my mouth so iron block was ok and not an issue for me. I'm sure there are others that have had great luck, just wasn't me.
