I honestly don't know how well it works. I've only driven it at night one time, and that was on the way home the day I bought it, and by that time the rear view mirror was the last thing on my mind.

Pardon me while I participate in a bit of thread necromancy.. this is the right time of year for it, isn't it? Anyway, I've noticed that sometimes, the auto-dimming mirror on my '12 V6 with Pony Package doesn't work, and I don't really understand why. I *do* have tinted windows, except for the front (can't by law in my state). And as was mentioned before, when it is working, I *do* notice the bluish tint in the mirror. Further, most of the time, it *does* work just fine. But randomly, it will just not work some nights. It isn't very often (thankfully) but I just took a four hour road trip driving at night, and it didn't work the whole way home, even after turning the car off at a rest stop. I wasn't getting the blue tint at all. The bright lights did not help my headache.

My question is, does anyone know if it's possible to replace the auto-dimming mirror with a regular mirror without compromising other functionality of the car? Like, say, the programmable garage door buttons? I know in some cars, they stuff the electronics for other things into the mirrors, and if that's the case here, I'll skip it, but I actually prefer a regular mirror that I can control by hand--makes it easier to deal with high beams or the sun in my rear window when it's still too light out for the auto-dimming to work.

I've even thought about fabricating some kind of clip that I can slide over the front-facing sensor on the back of the mirror, fooling it into thinking it's dark, but of course, that wouldn't help me on nights the mirror has decided not to work. Any experts out there with advice?

Rearview Mirror +

I have an '08 GT Convertible. I'm slowly transforming it into a GT500 and the autodim with temp display, compass and homelink is on my upgrade list. I know I can go to a dealership and get the mirror and wiring harness and kit for just under $400. However, I found the mirror for $125 but not harness or kit and dealership won't sell the harness separatly from the mirror. Does ANYONE know where I can find JUST the harness/kit!?!
Thanks!!

I am not thrilled with my auto dimming mirror. They should make them with sensitivity adjustments. I am getting older and my eyes are slowing when adjusting to lights in the dark. Am I going to the dark side or am I just getting more cynical??
